Callisto looked far from happy as she addressed the class, giving a brief, yet highly informative, lecture on snares and pit traps.

"However," she added. "These particular style of traps fall down when you want to catch a nocturnal animal without doing harm to it, as they often react badly to the approach of day, or are in fact harmed by excessive light. Your job today is to try and devise a trap which would trap a large, nocturnal animal without doing it any harm. You can do this either on your own or in groups."

Tyler reached for some rope and started weighing it in his hands, thinking about how a trap that wouldn't hurt could work.

Peter would have liked to know how intelligent this nocturnal animal was before starting to devise a trap.

Had Peter asked her, Callisto would have been quite scathing in her assessment of the nocturnal animal's intellect.

So he did. Because was rather important to proper design.

Bridge looks at the materials thoughtfully, half-wondering if he could convince Dr. Manx to let him borrow a Judgement Scanner for Cal to use.

Anders got himself a length of rope and . . . a few other items, and set to work making a snare trap.

. . . no, that wasn't an oversized yo-yo he was attempting to devise using some of the rope and assorted pieces of tree limb.

Really.

What part the yo-yo that really wasn't a yo-yo would play in the snare trap, he had no idea.

Rory started to sort of weave a trap.

No, she had no idea what she was doing.

But it looked pretty.

"Callisto? How large an animal are we discussing here? And what does it eat?" Sam asked, beginning to sketch a simple humane trap.

"Large," Callisto replied. "Especially around the head. Blood, hairgel."

Sam snickered. "Do spikes on the inside of the trap count as humane? They won't kill it."

"Only if they're not made of wood."

"Iron okay? Hmmm. Maybe steel. Or trinium."

"Which one hurts the most?"

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Trinium's one of the strongest metals on the planet. Almost unbreakable."

"You know anyone who makes chains out of the stuff? Cages and locks too?"

"Uh....maybe?" Sam made yet another resolution to never get Callisto mad at her.

"Then add those in too."

Sam bit her bottom lip and tried not to grin. "Leashes and gags, too?"

Callisto nodded. "Yes."

She laughed and tried to cover it with a fake cough. "Right. I'll just get to work, then."

D'anna? So didn't like the sound of this assignment.

She put forth effort to look like she was working. Working but not accomplishing the task.
