After getting another ~~handwaved~~ e-mail to come to the Danger Shop, the students would have found if littered with doors. Lots and lots and lots of doors.

"Good morning class," Alfred said as they entered. "Breakfast and caffeine are over there. Get some, sit down, and we'll talk about infiltration. Now there are many types of alarms and many ways of keeping a person out of a door. But we who are exceptionally sneaky do not worry about such things as locks or alarms, do we?

"As I said before, the types of locks and alarms are limitless. And some of them require some very specialized knowledge and tools to break. Therefore, today we are only going to talk about one, the one with the most useful applications."

Alfred held up a rolled up black cloth and let it unroll, revealing a line of well kept tools.

"Today, class, we're going to talk about lockpicking."

So saying, he went into his lecture

After finishing, he took a sip of tea from a nearby cup and pointed to a table. "On that table are lockpicking sets. These aren't holographs, they're real lockpicking sets I obtained for you, and they are yours to keep.

He gestured to the doors behind him. "Have fun, class. I'll be here if you need any hands on assistance. And don't be afraid to ask."

He glanced down at his notes. "Oh, and will Miss Santos see me after class?"

Before, during, or after the lecture

Pippi is terribly interested in all of this.

Near the end of the lecture, she does raise her hand.

Alfred pointed to her. "Yes, Miss Longstocking?"

"Isn't it sometimes better to try and go around something that is locked?"

"Yes, it is. Sometimes, if the lock is particularly complicated, you can save time by circumventing the door. Say, through a ventilation shaft."

"What do you do if fine tools such as these are taken away from you?" Pippi asked. "Is it true that lockpicks can be improvised from hair pins and such?"

Alfred nodded. "Very true, although much more difficult to pick locks with. And with cruder tools, they won't always work on the more complex locks."

"What is your position on explosives and incindiary devices as a means of bypassing security? ...For locks and the like, not people."

"An excellent option," Alfred said. "Provided you have the expertise to not blow your face off."

Pippi held up her hands to show she still had all her fingers and smiled with her intact face.

"I suppose, this being Stealth and Deception, we won't cover that. But for deception, you can make a very nice distraction with a delayed fuse. Will we be covering such things?"

Nadia listened to the lecture, though, again, this was all stuff she already knew.

At the end, though, she sat up a bit straighter.

"Aw, crap."

Pippi pat her friend on the shoulder.

And refrained from singing the ever popular, "Nadia's in troooooouble!" song.

Nadia's expression went completely neutral.

It wouldn't do to sulk in public.

Pippi is considering the possibility for the need for brownies later.

Nadia wasn't the sort to say "no" to brownies. They'd see if whatever Alfred had in store for her would leave time for them, however.

Pippi doesn't think it takes very long to get smacked with a ruler.

Well, no. But cleaning up a mess in Cafe Fina's kitchen with a toothbrush does take awhile.

It would be tragic if somebody were to come in and make more of a mess.

Extraordinarily so.

Walter gave her a sympathetic look, but he'd already spoken to Alfred on her behalf and that was about as good as it got.

Nadia knew she would have to tread carefully here. She wanted to explain herself to Alfred, of course, but did not want to anger him any further. Diplomacy was the name of the game.

Diplomacy, by the way, is seldom covered by training courses that offer only the essentials. In theory, the course she attended in Buenos Aires was supposed to be enough that she would not get caught and thus not require diplomacy.

Either that, or Roberto was hoping the young agents would get killed should they get caught. Then they couldn't share his secrets, after all.

Walter could suggest that Alfred could probably teach her quite a lot about diplomacy. If he knew she was thinking about it, and if they were speaking aloud.

But considering the circumstances, he couldn't do much else but give Alfred the majority of his attention and think that yes, he really could use this lesson, and probably those picks, too.

Nadia knew Walter was not an experienced lockpick, and as such, made sure not to interrupt him.

She did start doodling a rather extensive and complex security system consisting of infrared trip wires, pressure plates, motion cameras, and, yes, locks (though of the electronic sort) in her notebook while pretending to take notes.

Sakurazaki clung to her tea as she listened to the lecture. She hadn't been sleeping very well again, but at least she didn't forget to tie her bandages a little looser today.

Pip actually knew most of this already. HOwever, a little refresher never hurt anyone. Especially when it was from the master.
