"Good morning," Piper says as the students arrive. She points out the plate on the counter. "You're going to make chocolate snickerdoodles today."

"The only extra ingredient in these is cocoa. Really," she adds as she hands them a list of instructions. "Feel free to ask questions if you have any."

Equipment Needed

Mixing Bowl

Measuring Cups

Measuring Spoons

Baking Sheets

Spatula

Ingredients

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 eggs

2 cups flour

3/4 cup cocoa

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400F

Combine sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs.

Mix well.

Stir in cocoa, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

Blend well.

Shape dough into 1 inch balls.

Combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.

Roll dough in sugar/cinnamon mixture and place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set.

Immediately remove from cookie sheets.

"They look like they're turning out really we--" It wasn't until Sakurazaki turned to offer a smile to Alphonse that she realized just how close they were to each other to look through the oven window. She faltered, blushing, and had to swallow down a sudden lump in her throat before she could finish her statement, straightening slowly and brushing idly at her skirt. "...well." She fanned herself with her hand idly; it was hot being so close to the oven.

It was probably a good thing Alphonse was a little oblivious this time around-- he only briefly turned his head towards Sakurazaki before straightening himself back up. "Yeah, I think it's only a few more minutes."

"Good," Sakurazaki nodded, then smirked. "You know, I should have baked for my classmates back home while I was there. They were pretty skeptical about a lot of things about Fandom, but I think that Sakurazaki Setsuna baking cookies would have thrown them way off."

"By the way," she added idly, "those pictures of Cuddles I took last session for the scrapbook were a big hit with the girls."

"Really?" Alphonse chuckled. "He is kinda cute, huh? He's grown a little since then, that crazy little fuzzball."

Sakurazaki also chuckled, although just lightly. "Yeah...." She was a little hestitant to continue with her line of thinking, but they still had a bit of time to kill and it would be better than silence, although it caused a little bit of blushing. "The few pictures of you recieved a few compliments, too, you know. Although the Cuddles to Alphonse ratio did lean heavily toward the kitten."

"I-It did?" Alphonse turned a little red. "Ahh, well... I'd rather Cuddles get the majority of votes."

Sakurazaki hid a chuckle behind a hand; she couldn't help it as a response to someone else finally turning red for a change. "I can't blame you there. I don't even think Cuddles could withstand class 3-A." She smirked; this was more like it, this was the relaxed vibe she was hoping she could find again. She pointed to the scar. "I mean, hell. Even I couldn't get out of there unscathed."

"But," Alphonse began to point out, recovering from his blush. "Cuddles does stay on the school grounds for the most part. Ed even found him on the island! Certainly, that has to say something about him."

"This is quite true," Sakurazaki smiled, then checked the time and the oven window. "I think that's time..."

Alphonse nodded, peeking in through the oven window again to check. "Looks like it," he confirmed. After turning the oven off, Alphonse grabbed a pair of oven towels and quickly pulled the pan out and placed it on top.

The instructions had said to remove them from the cookie sheet immediately, so Sakurazaki grabbed a plate, armed herself with a spatula, and quickly, carefully set to the task of relocating the snickerdoodles.

Much as Alphonse really wanted to try out one of the ~~soylent~~ snickerdoodles, he also knew that picking up anything that just came out from a hot oven was a Very Bad Idea. So instead he waited anxiously. "Once again, we've conquered the Home Ec. room!"

Sakurazaki shoveled the last snickerdoodle onto the plate, and triumphantly raised her utensil. "Victory is ours! All baking products cower in fear at the hands of Setsuna of the Spatula and Alphonse of the...uhh..." It was difficult thinking of a cooking term that started with an 'a.' "Um...Elric the Eggbreaker!" Which worked if you ignored the fact that she always handled the eggs.

"Shouldn't you be Sakurazaki of the Spatula then?" Alphonse said, laughing. "You're right about breaking eggs, however."

Sakurazaki shrugged, blushing a bit, and chuckling, as she said, "Setsuna of the Spatula's easier to say. But I suppose that's the benefit of having an allitrative name. Either one works."

"Oh, be all sensible why don't you," Alphonse teased, wagging a finger for emphasis.

"Well, one of us has to be," Sakurazaki lifted her chin up high, then grinned. "Pity your name doesn't start with a 'd,' because then I could dub you Dough-eater."

"There's always Dough-Eater Elric," Alphonse pointed out, even if he was aware of how incredibly silly that sounded. "If we're going to continue using my last name here."

"I like it," Sakurazaki concluded with a nod. "A fine name for a true kitchen-warrior."

"Now, for the moment of truth," with the snickerdoodles finally having a moment to cool off, Alphonse picked one up with a dramatic flick of the wrist. "Ready?"

Sakurazaki quickly snatched one up. She nodded, bringing it to her mouth. "Ready." Her voice held the drama and tension of such a thrilling moment and, closing her eyes, she took a bite.

At the same time she did, Alphonse took a bite as well. It didn't take very long for him to give his "Mmm!" of approval.

"Tastes ~~like people!~~ pretty good!" Sakurazaki assessed quickly, one hand offering a thumbs-up, the other covering her mouth for politeness because she hadn't quite finished chewing. The thumbs-up turned into a V for Victory as she swallowed the first bite, wishing she had a better stomach for sweets.

"Thus we have another successful batch of cookies!" Alphonse beamed. "You did well, Setsuna of the Spatula."

Sakurazaki chuckled, then sucked in a serious demenour and nodded her head reverently. "As did you, Dough-Eater Elric."
