Today, the class meets on the beach, to accomadate the student who has a bit of an aquatic problem at the moment. The Doctor set out beach blanket and towels, and has hauled the holoprojector out on a cart.

"Pass forward your requests I asked for, thank you. As I let you know, we're switching things around a bit. Vampires and werewolves will be at a later date. Today is simply 'Close Encounters of the Unattractive Kind'. Now, please remember, that it's not so much that I find these species particularly unpleasant, it's just we might as well show some of the more unsavory aliens out in the world. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'll be taking questions today, but no lecturing today. It's called close encounters for a reason. You'll be talking to the projections, trying to gather what you can from them. Ask them whatever. Remember they can't actually hurt you, but please only antagonize them if you're being terribly clever about it. There is no assignment for next week. Time for you all to put on your 'first contact' thinking caps. The projector will be sending out three different aliens. Talk to at least one, please."

The Doctor smiled, then turned on the projector. Three forms appeared...

"And what about the rest of 'em?"

"They suffer from horrible greed," Hob said. "It is most unfortunate."

"That's sad." Pippi said. "Why do you think that is?"

"Their upbringing, I suppose," Hob said.

"Do they cause a lot of trouble for your people?"

"They cause problems for other people, mainly," Hob said. "Which does give our race somewhat of an unfortunate reputation amongst the other planets."

"Sucky, I know what that's like." Pippi nodded. "What sorts of problems do they cause?"

"They scavenge planets for scrap," Hob said. "And sometimes sell them entirely. Even if there is life on them."

"That's terrible." Pippi said. "Can they be stopped?"

"Our justice system does their best," Hob said. "But it is hard to stop entire families of organized crime."

"Yes, that is a universal problem it seems." said Pippi. "Do pardon me for asking, but does your kind have any inherent weaknesses?"

"We are creatures of calcium," Hob said. "We have a weakness against acetic acid."

"I'll have to look that up." Pippi mused. "I suppose, being creatures of calcium, you have low instances of Osty-oh blue roses."

"I must agree," Hob said. "For I have not heard of such a thing."

"So what does your kind do for fun?"

"There are friendly games of sport, singing, theater," Hob said. "Long walks on the beach, observing the sky is a favorite of my wife and I."

"Oh I like looking at the sky too."

"We also have wonderful seas," Hob said. "The color of burgundy."

"Ours is blue. What makes your sea that color? Is it another calcium thing?"

"I do not know," Hob admitted. "I am not a scientist."

"What do you do?"

"I am a janitor."

"Do you have anything good to get out black heal marks?"

"My species does not wear shoes, typically," Hob said. "Therefore such a problem does not usually arise."

"That's a good policy. Black heal marks are the worst!"
