Constant Vigilance #4: Friday the 3rd, Morning. Serenity Cove.

Today, the class meets on the beach, to accomadate the student who has a bit of an aquatic problem at the moment. The Doctor set out beach blanket and towels, and has hauled the holoprojector out on a cart.

"Pass forward your requests I asked for, thank you. As I let you know, we're switching things around a bit. Vampires and werewolves will be at a later date. Today is simply 'Close Encounters of the Unattractive Kind'. Now, please remember, that it's not so much that I find these species particularly unpleasant, it's just we might as well show some of the more unsavory aliens out in the world. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'll be taking questions today, but no lecturing today. It's called close encounters for a reason. You'll be talking to the projections, trying to gather what you can from them. Ask them whatever. Remember they can't actually hurt you, but please only antagonize them if you're being terribly clever about it. There is no assignment for next week. Time for you all to put on your 'first contact' thinking caps. The projector will be sending out three different aliens. Talk to at least one, please."

The Doctor smiled, then turned on the projector. Three forms appeared...

[ooc: OCD is up. Have at me!]

"We do not until the writers screw up in a later episode," it replied. "This planet was ours long before the humans walked it."

Stark didn't know all that much about Earth history, so he was perfectly willing to except that there used to be sentient reptiles wandering around.

"What do you call yourself then? Unless you don't call yourself anything."

"We have no real need. We call ourselves by our names."

"Oh. I'm Stark," he offered. "What's your name then?"

The Silurian responded with a series of clicking sounds that did not translate into English.

Apparently translator microbes were no help at all when it came to ancient reptilian Earth languages.

"Nice to meet you."

"I suppose it is of interest to meet you," the Silurian responded. "If you are not of Earth, why are you here?"

"I ended up here," Stark said with a shrug. He didn't entirely understand it himself. "I was looking for someone and then I was here. And I just stayed."

"I see," the Silurian said. "Do you fraternize with the apes?"

"Fraternize with the apes," Stark repeated slowly. "I talk to the humans. Otherwise I'd be very lonely. There are an awful lot of them here and not so many of anything else."

The Silurian scoffed, which involved a lot of head bobbing.

Stark frowned a little. "What?"

"I would expect a non-ape not to lower themselves to such activities."

"There's no lowering! Nobody's doing any lowering. How is it lowering?"

"They are apes," the Silurian said. "Inferior species." It eyed Stark. "Perhaps you too are inferior."

"They are not inferior," Stark said with a glare. Then his brain caught up with the rest of what the Silurian had said. "And I am NOT inferior! We're NOT. We are not a lesser species. Everyone says we are. But we're not. I'm not!"

Why yes. That might be a touchy subject for the Banik.

The Silurian attempted to kill Stark with the pain-inducing power of his third eye.

Unfortunately for the Silurian, he was just a projection so all it did was cause the third eye to flash red a bit.

Stark glared at the projection.

"I'm NOT inferior," he repeated. And continued glaring.

((and then I got dragged out of my house. alas.))

The Silurian only managed to glare back. Sullenly. As it was upset that its powers to cause pain didn't seem to work on Stark.

After another long glare, Stark shook his head.

"You're not even real. But I'm still not inferior." With that, he turned and walked off, muttering.
