Constant Vigilance #4: Friday the 3rd, Morning. Serenity Cove.

Today, the class meets on the beach, to accomadate the student who has a bit of an aquatic problem at the moment. The Doctor set out beach blanket and towels, and has hauled the holoprojector out on a cart.

"Pass forward your requests I asked for, thank you. As I let you know, we're switching things around a bit. Vampires and werewolves will be at a later date. Today is simply 'Close Encounters of the Unattractive Kind'. Now, please remember, that it's not so much that I find these species particularly unpleasant, it's just we might as well show some of the more unsavory aliens out in the world. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'll be taking questions today, but no lecturing today. It's called close encounters for a reason. You'll be talking to the projections, trying to gather what you can from them. Ask them whatever. Remember they can't actually hurt you, but please only antagonize them if you're being terribly clever about it. There is no assignment for next week. Time for you all to put on your 'first contact' thinking caps. The projector will be sending out three different aliens. Talk to at least one, please."

The Doctor smiled, then turned on the projector. Three forms appeared...

The Doctor smiles at Phoebe. "Thank you," he says. "Am I going to have to schedule all our sessions here?"

Phoebe smiled and shook her head. "I don't think so, but I'm glad I was able to attend your class again."

She was pretty sure she was going to end up swimming away that night because the call had gotten stronger. but there was no reason for her to worry the nice Doctor about it.

"Good," the Doctor said, unaware of whatever may be going on in Phoebe's head. "S'always nice to see a student trying new things."

Jack waved to get the Doctor's attention. "Hey, Doc? Sorry I wasn't here last week. I spent the whole day in bed."

"Not alone," he protested. "There was someone with me all day." Smirking a little, he added, "Okay, not the same person for the whole day, but still."

Jack grinned and ran a hand through his hair. "What about if the reason I was in bed was because I was sick? Would that help?"

"Well, that makes all the difference," the Doctor said. "Sorry to hear about the illness. I'm sure Isabel took good notes last week and could share with you."

"Thanks, Doctor." Jack beamed at him. "She's the one who told me about the assignment, so I'm sure she'll be happy to share with me."

Walter had wanted to check on Phoebe, given his concern about her forgetting things like "love" and "family." He spotted Phoebe and a bunch of other students.

Huh.

He waved to the people he knew and came closer to see what was going on.

"Oh, hello there, Mister Dornez," the Doctor said. "Just a session of my class, that's all. You're welcome to learn along with everyone, if you like."
