Steath and Deception #4, Wednesday Morning, Dangershop

The students had received a handwaved e-mail to come to the Dangershop in the morning as opposed to Cafe Fina.

When the students arrived, they found themselves in the most varied landscape they had ever seen. Three kinds of forests, two kinds of swamps, a desert, two plains, a snowfield, and an urban environment.

A noticeably clean and shiny urban environment. Complete with a newspaper vending machine with a headline that read "Superman saves Metropolis from Giant Spinning Top!"

Then the students heard some cursing from the side. "How does Barbra deal with these things... wait, here we go."

The clean urban environment shimmered and was replaced by a dark, dilapidated cityscape. The newspaper headline was replaced with "Who is the Batman?"

A man stood up from the console and ran a hand through his hair. "Hi kids. I'm James Gordon, commissioner of the GCPD. I was also in the Special Forces when I was younger, so Alfred asked me to come talk to you guys about cameoflage."

He shrugged off his coat and walked over to the center of the danger room, where a table with a selection of military camouflage options in various sizes was sitting.

"The important thing to remember about camouflage," Gordon said, pushing up his glasses, "is that despite what television may tell you, there is nothing to make you disappear completely. Not even the Batman," he continued, nodding towards the newspaper vending machine, "can pull that off. All it can do is conceal you, force someone to actually look harder to find you. Ideally, you want to be harder to find than they are willing to put into looking."

Gordon looked down into his notes, pushed up his glasses again, and launched into a lecture on millitary camouflage.

"Alright then," he said. "I've got a bunch of environments up to practice on and a selection of uniforms here. Try to match the right camo to the right environment and see if you can find the best place to hide to make maximum use of the camouflage. I should have sizes for everyone here, but if you can't find something in your size, just tell me and I'll see what I can do."

He pulled out a small jar. "I also have camoflage face paint. See if you can figure out how to best use it in conjunction with your camouflage."

[[Wait for le OCD! Have fun kids! Don't break Gordon!]]

Nadia had heard all of this before, camouflage having been part of her training in Argentina.

She was considering just kind of slinking out, but decided that would be rude.

Apparently she hadn't learned how to camouflage looking bored during the lecture. Walter might have poked her gently in the ribs, while looking eminently engaged in Gordon's lecture.

That actually hadn't been listed under the important skills for an intelligence agent when not in an undercover situation.

She flashed him a look and wondered if he could possibly as into the lecture as he seemed.

Not in the least, as might be evidenced by the flash of a grin he gave her before returning to looking fascinated by Gordon's continued speech.

She might not have to look interested, but he had to assume that Alfred would see this class one way or another.

Nadia slowwwwwwwwly sank lower in her chair, wondering if this guy was good enough to catch her if she tried to escape.

Walter kept his eyes on Gordon, but pulled out a pad and pen and wrote a quick note before passing both pad and pen to Nadia.

Phoebe's a mermaid.

Nadia froze in her sliding and pulled out a pen of her own.

How'd THAT happen?

She says she did a spell that went wrong.

Which was just illustrative of why he was never going to try being a wizard.

When looking fascinated by a lecture he was only half listening to was right up his alley.

Should have guessed. Nadia started sliding again. New plan: escape class, go find Phoebe.

She's OK. Bel, Lana & Piper are working on it. She's having fun for now.

Walter passed her the note and gave her a warning look.

Nadia totally ignored the warning look.

She didn't work for Alfred.

Seras sat and took notes.

She wasn't particularly fascinated with camoflage, though, she did figure that it was something she ought to know about.

What held her attention was that here was a Real Life Police Officer, in the flesh. Seras scrabbled her pen across her notebook and tried not to look too impatient for the lecture on camoflage to be over with.

Camoflague. Perfect. Because disappears was precisely what Sakurazaki wanted to do this morning.

Just a dream, just a dream, just a really fucked up dream...

Maybe Jude would be absent today. Pity Alfred wasn't conducting class today, because he might have let her off to go do more training if he understood about her mission this weekend...

Ugh.

Which of course meant . . .

"Hey, bra!" Jude bounced over to her. "Camoflage! Maybe I won't totally suck today!

Re: Chat

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Sakurazaki winced a little at his bouncing, already being seized by guilt. But it was just a dream, right? A mess-up dream wrought from training too hard; that was all. No need to feel guilty. She gave Jude a little smile. "You say that as though you totally sucked before, which you didn't." And you won't ever because you're amazing and, God, I'm sorry. Going crazy, just a dream, just a dream; I'm such a horrible person...

She groaned a little, holding her head to stop all the nagging streams of consciousness.

"I totally . . ." Jude trailed off, frowning. "Hey. Hey, Setsuna, you okay? Something wrong?"

Re: Chat

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"I..." Shaking her head lightly, Sakurazaki tried to figure out exactly how to say this. If she should say this. She sighed. "I think maybe I've been training a little too hard this week; had a really messed up dream last night, and it's kind of got me in a little bit of a funk." That had to be it. She smiled lightly. "I can't wait for this weekend to just be over and out of the way, you know?"

Re: Chat

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jude nodded and offered her a smile. "Yeah, bra. You've been really kinda unmellow lately. Want to tell me about the dream? Sometimes it helped. Like this one I had where there was zombies and hot sauce and . . . yeah."

Re: Chat

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Zombies and hot sauce?" Sakurazaki smiled at him a little. "I think I would have been able to handle one like that without a problem. But, I dunno, I think I'd just like to try and forget about this one. It was pretty out there." Another light shake of her head, accompanied by a sigh. "Just been training too much, getting a little apprehensive about the job..."

Re: Chat

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Jude looked around before hugging her quickly and dropping a kiss on her cheek. "It'll be over soon, bra. You're gonna rock."

Re: Chat

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
A quick hug and a kiss on the cheek definately work marvels toward making her feel a little better. "Yeah," she said quietly. Just a few more days, no more demons, no more obsessive training, no more weird dreams or guilt or confusion. Just life as usual, with maybe a little bit of jet lag. She smiled lightly again. "I hope so."

Pippi listens to the nice man with the funny mustache and takes notes.

Sawyer tosses a piece of balled up paper at Pippi's head when she's taking notes and then goes back to looking innocent.

Re: Chat

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
After the second of third paper ball, Pippi tilts her head as another sails at her and a braid whaps it back in the direction it came from.
