The Kludge's Guide to the Universe | Dangershop, Wednesday Afternoon (Week 4)

"Now that you've mastered the art of the clever escape, it's time to master the speedy one."

Harper tapped a control, bringing up the empty cells from last week. "After all, breaking out of your cell is only the beginning."

"Your objective today is to make it to the spaceport on the other side of this dangerous, seedy city. You can split up, stay together, try to meet up with other escapees, then beg, bluff, and bribe your way though the city. One caveat though, keep violence to a minimum, not only does it attract attention, attacking your pursuers makes it personal. This goes double for deaths. You kill someone? You fail the exercise, as does everyone you're with at the time."

[ooc: The guards and inhabitants of the city are moddable for the most part ~~since I'm kinda brain dead tonight~~ but there might be a surprise or two.]

"Unless I need to keep it running, and you get to fly us out of here," Sam corrected.

Cameron blinked. "Okay," he nodded. He survived Flight workshop so he could do this. "But I want a cool ride."

"Picky, picky," Sam complained, "and in this scenario, cool is one I can make work."

"I knew you were awesome," he smirked as he held open the door for Sam. "Hat-people first."

"See if I hotwire any spaceships for you once we're out of this," Sam teased, walking through the door and heading right for a small two-seater that looked very manageable.

Cameron followed, wondering if they were just going to get away with this. So far, no one was paying much attention to them, but that might change soon.

And they might have gotten away with it, if Sam hadn't been so busy staring at the ship and trying to figure out how to steal it that she tripped over a pipe on the floor.

There was a very loud clank, and Sam froze.

Wincing at the noise, Cameron moved beside Sam. Of course, they'd drawn everyone's attention right towards them.

A mechanic appeared from behind one of the other crafts and looked Sam and Cameron up and down. "What do you kids think you're doing?"

Sam was never going to be able to take herself seriously again. She giggled, then twirled her hair and tilted her head to the side, making it look like she'd lost most of her IQ.

She mimed chewing some gum and elbowed Cam in the side, hands on her hips. "I told you we were gonna get in trouble, but noooo," she pitched her voice higher, "yoooou wanted to make out by the ships." Her voice was deliberately accusing and she looked at the trooper for sympathy.

Cameron blushing wasn't faked at all. He tried very much not to stare at Sam and he really had to ask her where she learned to do that.

The trooper raised an eyebrow at Cameron as if to ask him if it was true and Cameron moved a bit to the side as if he didn't want Sam to overhear.

"You know, girls like cool... spacecrafts and..." He shrugged and motioned towards the ship. "It's impressive, man," he hoped the trooper would get his drift as he leaned closer and added, "And she's hot. I might never get a chance at this again."

The trooper looked over at Sam again, frowning.

Sam chewed her gum and twirled her hair. If the trooper took a few steps forward, she could drop him, but it would attract attention.

"Oh, Cammie," Sam cooed, wincing inwardly, "I like that one." She pointed at the little two-person ship.

Cameron threw Sam a horrified look at the 'Cammie', but quickly covered it up and looked desperatedly at the trooper.

"Come on, man. Just... ten minutes and we're out of there," he begged.

The trooper shook his head in amusement. "Fine, but I want you both out of here in ten minutes," he warned.

"Thanks, dude." Grinning, Cameron nodded and moved over to Sam, trying to look casual as he reached for her hand.

"Ten minutes? But that's not long at alllll..." Sam drawled as she took Cameron's hand and pulled him quickly towards the ship, waving back over her shoulder at the trooper.

The trooper shook his head.

When they got to the ship, Sam climbed in and headed for the cockpit. Hopefully someone had left the keys in the ignition. "Sorry about that," she said sheepishly as she slid under what was apparently the dashboard.

"Are you kidding?" Cameron kept an eye out to make sure no one was coming in to check on them. "This is the best bribing material ever."

Sam poked her head out long enough to glare at Cameron, then slid back under, already pulling and reattaching wires. "So, you gonna learn the controls, or just wing it?"

"Right," Cameron slid into the pilot's seat and stared down at the controls. At least the steering part was always easy to discover. It were the other buttons that were harder.

"Okay," Sam slid back out, but didn't go far. "I think I've got it. Time to leave. Punch it."

It? It'd be nice if he knew what it was. He hit the biggest button he could find and the ship activated.

At the same time, the simulation ended and Cameron sulked. "We were just getting to the good part," he whined.

"Poor you," Sam said as she stood up. "I wanted to see what it could do, too. Maybe next week?"

"Sure, Sammie," Cameron said with a grin.

"I'll pay you," Sam cut directly to the point, "not to call me that ever again, unless there's a revisiting of weetiny weekend. There's still stuff you want me to teach you, isn't there?"

He chuckled. "Just helping me out with my swoopbike will do, but I'm more than willing to learn some neat tricks."

"Not if you call me Sammie again," she smiled at him.
