The Kludge's Guide to the Universe | Dangershop, Wednesday Afternoon (Week 4)

"Now that you've mastered the art of the clever escape, it's time to master the speedy one."

Harper tapped a control, bringing up the empty cells from last week. "After all, breaking out of your cell is only the beginning."

"Your objective today is to make it to the spaceport on the other side of this dangerous, seedy city. You can split up, stay together, try to meet up with other escapees, then beg, bluff, and bribe your way though the city. One caveat though, keep violence to a minimum, not only does it attract attention, attacking your pursuers makes it personal. This goes double for deaths. You kill someone? You fail the exercise, as does everyone you're with at the time."

[ooc: The guards and inhabitants of the city are moddable for the most part since I'm kinda brain dead tonight but there might be a surprise or two.]

[ooc: OCD threads coming are up. Post away!]

Continued from here: (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/961906.html?thread=51006578#t51006578)Sam would have winked, but she was too busy walking quickly. Once they were clear of the guard-filled hallway, she stopped, trying to listen to her surroundings and hoping she could get a clue as to which way was out.

"Do you see any natural light?"

"No," he shook his head, ran further along the corridor and found a hallway to their left with a window at the end of it. "Here!" he called out.

"Nice, Cameron," Sam said, checking the window. "Do you see an alarm wire? Because right now, I'm thinking going out the window is our best bet."

"Does it matter? They know we're gone," Cameron said, studying the wall but unable to make anything out.

"Sometimes the alarms send an alert as to where you are, and we wouldn't want that," Sam said, running her hand along the sill. "I think we're good. What I wouldn't give for a glass cutter, though."

Cameron realised it was probably a good thing he got locked up with Sam. "Will breaking it do?" he asked.

"If you can muffle it, sure," Sam said, keeping an eye on the hallway. "We don't want every guard knowing where we are."

"Uh... Sure," he really had no clue how muffled this would be, but it wasn't like they had much choice. He pulled off his shirt and wrapped it around his fist. "Okay, step back."

Sam stepped back, absolutely not staring at Cameron, because that would be weird. Pretty, but weird.

He'd never actually done this before and he really hoped he wasn't going to end up just hurting his hand and leaving the glass unbroken. That'd look stupid.

Taking a deep breath, he hit out at the window and luckily it broke without protest. Yay for image saved. Using the shirt, he tried to break away all the shards from the wood and brushed them from the windowsill so they couldn't cut themselves climbing through.

"You first?" Sam suggested.

"So much for being a gentleman," he teased as he thoroughly shook out his shirt before putting it back on. He stuck his head out of the window and groaned. "Sure, we couldn't just be on the first floor. There's a ledge going to the fire escape," he told Sam as he already started to climb out.

Sam waited until Cameron was out, then stuck her leg through. "Could be worse--at least we've got a fire escape?"

"We'll have to thank Harper later," Cameron grumbled, concentrating on not falling off the ledge which if he had a choice, he would have made broader.

A couple of minutes later, he was climbing over the side of the fire escape and turned around to see how Sam was doing.

Sam edged carefully onto the ledge, keeping her back to the building. She took a deep breath and edged more to her right.

"Next time, you get to come up with the bright idea, and I'll break the window," she said as she finally made it onto the fire escape.

"I can try, but bright ideas and me don't go along so well," Cameron said as he headed down the stairs. "Everything looks clear from this side."

"Here too," Sam backed carefully down the stairs after Cam, keeping an eye on the window so they wouldn't be surprised from either direction. "And I bet you'll be great."

He was about to argue when he noticed two guards rounding the corner of the building on their patrol. He put a finger in front of his mouth and motioned towards them.

Sam sighed and turned around. She whispered, "No violence, remember? Let's just stay here for a second and hope they don't notice."

He nodded and tried to stay as quiet as possible. The guards luckily didn't seem to think to look up and after a while, they did disappear behind the other corner.

Cameron let out a slow breath and got up again. He motioned towards the nearest street, wanting to make a run for it now that they still could.

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Sam could tell he was poised to run, and said in a low voice, "Running will draw attention. Walk with purpose, but try to blend in."

"You've got way too much experience with this," Cameron decided, but he did as she told him and tried to look casual but in a hurry to get to work. He hoped that's how he looked anyway as they headed in to the city.
