Game, FH Gym, 1 p.m. FHT

The gym was ready for the game assuming nothing crazy happened during detention, with a shiny floor, clean new nets, and two perfect basketballs lolling about. Everything was ready for the rematch between the blue and gold gremlins. Last time, gold had eked out a victory; this time, it was anyone's game.

Play ball.

"Hi Nadia!" Pippi said flouncing up. "Looking good!"

Nadia looked down at her outfit and then back up at Pippi. "I look creepy. Also, my face is sweating. I'd forgotten about how the mask makes my face sweat. Go gremlins!"

"Nadia! You look great," Marie said. "Listen, I have a favor to ask you."

Nadia blinked, not that you could tell behind the mask. "What do you need?"

"Can you be in charge of the spirit stick today?" she asked, gesturing to the sidelines where said stick rested on a pillow.

Nadia looked over. "Sure." She went over to pick it up. "Um," She tossed it up and down a few times. "What's a spirit stick?"

Marie cringed. "Be careful! It can't touch the ground!"

Nadia looked over, tossing it up and down a few more times. "Why--" she missed the catch, and it clattered to the floor. "Oh dear."

Nadia stepped back from the stick like it might explode. "What happens if it touches the ground?"

The whistle blew for the start of the game, and Nadia flinched, then doubled over.

"Nadia? Are you okay?" Marie asked, hovering over her nervously.

The mascot costume seemed to deflate, and moments later a gremlin, an actual gremlin, clawed its way out of the costume.

It hissed at Marie and then skittered off under the bleachers.
