Flight and Flying [Friday morning, Flight Club shed]

The flight simulator had been reconfigured again--this time to something that should seem a bit more familiar to Earth-based students: The F-16 Flying Falcon.

Anakin clasped his hands behind his back and began speaking when the students had assembled in front of him. "This is one of the aircraft used by the militaries of this world," he began. "It's good in air-to-air combat as well as air-to-surface attack, can go more than 850 kilometers before it needs to be refueled and can withstand up to nine G's--pretty high tech for this world's standards."

He opened the simulator door and gestured to the controls. "As you can see, it's configured differently than the systems we've been using in the last few weeks, but the joystick and the trigger button are located in the same place. The F-16 just isn't as sensitive as the starfighter--you'll have to yank harder at the joystick to get the same reaction."

He was completely oblivious to any kind of innuendo that might've been found in that statement. "You'll also be dealing with the Earth's gravity, so turns won't be as fast, and if you make the plane go up too quickly, the machine's been equipped to simulate G forces, so you might pass out. That's not exactly what I had in mind for today, so please, um, don't do that."

"Oh hell no," Dean said when he saw today's assignment. The last couple of weeks he'd been able to get past the idea of flying because a pod racer and a space ship were more the stuff of video games than reality for him. But this was a fighter jet. A real plane. The kind that tend to go up in spectacular fireballs when they crashed.

There was no way he going to get in the cockpit -- even a simulated cockpit for this.

"I know, it's lacking a little bit without the whole flight suit and helmet to go with," Alec said, mildly disappointed. And either completely missing Dean's vaguely terrified look or willfully ignoring it, either of which was possible.

"You can give me a frigging suit of armour and I'm still not doing this," Dean declared, his voice getting a little higher pitched. Not that he was panicking or anything. Nope, not him.

"It's a sim," Alec pointed out, giving Dean a look of disbelief. "It's not exactly going to jump up and hurl itself off the nearest cliff with you in it."

"You don't know that. This is Fandom," Dean countered. "It might."

Alec snorted. "The sim's not getting up and pitching you off a cliff, Dean. Just get in and try it out - it's fun!"

"No." Dean crossed his arms over his chest and shook his head.

"It'll be okay," Alec reassured with a smirk. "I swear you're not going to die in a simulated jet plane."

Dean glared at him. "You'll be sorry if I do."

Alec blinked, then snickered. "Sorry while I laugh my ass off, maybe."

"You really need to work on your being encouraging," Dean told him bluntly.

"What, do you want me to hold your hand?" Alec grinned. "Tell you it'll all be okay?"

"No, not my hand," Dean said, dropping his voice so he wouldn't be overheard. He grinned suddenly. "And not here. But some incentive to look forward to if I don't die..."

"Consider yourself given incentive then," Alec said, grinning back. He nodded towards the sim, giving Dean a challenging look. "C'mon, just try it. You won't die, and if the sim does get up? I'll chase it down before it reaches a cliff."

That made Dean chuckle a little. "All right," he said, looking at the simulator and swallowing hard. "The things I let you talk me into..."
