((Again, sorry about the lateness. I feel death is upon me. Or maybe it's not that bad and I'm just being a drama queen.))

River picked a seled, a smile on her face. The food here was a lot better than on Serenity.

After getting pencils from A&S, Pippi decided to grab some lunch.

"Hi River! How was your trip?"

"Hi Pippi!" River said, greeting her friend with a wide grin. "Trip was good. What did I miss?"

"Um, we all lost our voices and these guys tried to kill some people, then there were classes." she explained. "Then there were cookies that made some of us think we were other people. That was a little disconcerting once it was over."

"Strange cookies?" River blinked. Not that she was surprised, really.

"I have a present for you."

"Oh really?! I have one for you too!"

"You do?!" River looked excited. "Yours is in my room."

"Well that works out because yours is in my room!"

"So after lunch we go and get them and meet in the common room?"

"That sounds like a brilliant plan!" Pippi nodded digging into her PB&J. "In the meantime, how's your brother?"

"He's fine. But I think he misses me, and I think he also misses his former job. And he misses Kaylee." River frowned. "So perhaps he's not so fine. No. But he's always been good at trying not to make me notice too much." She had noticed of course.

"Oh that's sucky." Pippi said. "Why is he still out there? Is he keepin' the bad people off yer trail?"

"His trail, now that I'm here. I think he tries to be useful in places where there aren't a lot of good doctors available. And Serenity is a good place. Better than most places I've been."

"Oh that's very good of him. I bet he's a very good doctor." Pippi nodded.

"Yes, I think he is." River smiled, but there was a hint of sadness in her voice.

"You're back!"

"Hello Tim!" River grinned. "Yes, I'm back. How are you?"

"I'm doing rather well. How was your trip?"

"Good. But it's also good to be back." She smiled. "I have a present for you."

Tim's eyes lit up like a kid on christmas, though he'd deny it utterly. Even though that was a silly thing to do with someone who could read your mind. "Oooh? What'd ya get me?" he grinned.

River laughed at his poorly hidden enthusiasm. "It's in my room. I'll get it for you later."

"Okee." Tim grinned. "How's Berthold, did he miss you?"

"Me or the ice cream," River said. "He seems happy now."

Tim grinned.
