Advanced Computers #3, Wednesday Afternoon 7/26

The computer lab is meeting outside today under a tent with Help Desk emblazoned across the front. Each student has their own workstation complete with phone, toolbox and nifty pocket protector.

"As you can see by my mad sign making skillz, we're going to be manning the help desk today." Abby smiled. "As geeks there is a 99.9% chance that someone is going to ask you to fix their computer. Seriously guys, it's going to happen. You need to know your stuff. Not only how to fix technology...but how to deal with people who don't know how to use it."

"Three rules you have to remember." Abby paced and raised her fingers as she counted them off. "One, not everyone is a geek so remember to tone down the techspeak. Two, people will do incredibly stupid things to their computer, try not to cry over the phone when they tell they've never done a virus scan. Three, the first response is always reboot. It doesn't matter that the problem couldn't be solved by that, it's always the first response."

"Okay, the phone lines are open and people can walk in with a problem. Remember the rules, be polite and come to me if there's a problem you can't fix."

[ooc: Post is up and ready to play! I've got an early appointment so I won't be around till later in the day, but you should all be able to play with each other. Have fun!]

"Pretty good. Not nearly as interesting now that we're out of the cabins." Sam smirked and grabbed a screwdriver, to try and get the cover off of the laptop. "How about you?"

"I hear that. I'm bummed about not being in the cabins longer." Blair shook his head. "Things are pretty cool though."

"Do you knit?"
likethegun: (i'm looking over my shoulder)

Sam was certain that there was a connecting train of thought there that he'd just missed. "No, I don't know how to knit. Not that I've ever tried to learn, actually."

"John Crichton is starting a knitting club. You might think about joining." Blair bounced a little. "It's very manly."
likethegun: (i'm looking down at myself)

"I don't know if knitting can be manly," Sam replied, glad he could focus on Blair's laptop to hide the nervous look he got whenever someone mentioned John.

"Oh, it totally can. The warriors of Scotland knitted all their battle clothes." Blair couldn't remember if that's what he told John yesterday or not, but it sounded right. "Plus we can help out the gremlins by making them scarfs to keep them warm."
likethegun: (i'm making my o rly? face)

Sam got the cover off of the laptop and turned it over, gently shaking the dirt out. "Oh? That sounds like a worthy cause. I guess I'll have to come and check it out," he said, somehow managing to sound sincere.

"Awesome, man!" Blair bounced excitedly. "You can invite whoever you want. I'll let you know when it's goign to be."
likethegun: (i'm making my o rly? face)

"Great." Sam had to admit, Blair was kind of endearing and hard to say no to when he bounced like that. He put the cover back on the laptop and handed it back to Blair. "Here you go. It should work fine now. Just watch how much planting you do near the computer from now on."

"Awesome, man. Thank you!" Blair bounced forward to take the laptop. "I wasn't really planting, I just left Hank on the keyboard. I was hoping a classical music screensaver would stimulate growth."
likethegun: (i'm smiling to the left)

"Really?" Sam asked, perking up. "I've read about doing that sort of thing. Is it working?"

Blair held up a dirt filled pot that had no obvious signs of plant life. "Sam, this is Hank, my pet plant. He hasn't really grown, but I've only been doing the classical music thing for a couple of weeks."
likethegun: (i'm making my o rly? face)

Sam eyed the pot curiously. "You are watering him too, right. I don't think plants can live on music alone."

"Watering, fertilizing, meditating." Blair patted his pot sadly. "I've had him for months and still nothing."
likethegun: (i'm questioning your seriousness)

Sam gave Blair a sympathetic look. "That sucks. Maybe he's just a late bloomer."

Re: Walk In

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-07-27 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but at least he's easy to carry around." Blair said cheerfully. "I wouldn't be able to hang with him as much if he was the size of a bush."
likethegun: (Default)

Re: Walk In

[personal profile] likethegun 2006-07-27 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe you shouldn't carry him around so much?" Sam suggested. "He might not be getting enough sun or something."

Blair nodded. "You know, that's a good point. Thanks, man. I'll try and keep him in my window for a while and see if that works."
