Advanced Computers #3, Wednesday Afternoon 7/26

The computer lab is meeting outside today under a tent with Help Desk emblazoned across the front. Each student has their own workstation complete with phone, toolbox and nifty pocket protector.

"As you can see by my mad sign making skillz, we're going to be manning the help desk today." Abby smiled. "As geeks there is a 99.9% chance that someone is going to ask you to fix their computer. Seriously guys, it's going to happen. You need to know your stuff. Not only how to fix technology...but how to deal with people who don't know how to use it."

"Three rules you have to remember." Abby paced and raised her fingers as she counted them off. "One, not everyone is a geek so remember to tone down the techspeak. Two, people will do incredibly stupid things to their computer, try not to cry over the phone when they tell they've never done a virus scan. Three, the first response is always reboot. It doesn't matter that the problem couldn't be solved by that, it's always the first response."

"Okay, the phone lines are open and people can walk in with a problem. Remember the rules, be polite and come to me if there's a problem you can't fix."

[ooc: Post is up and ready to play! I've got an early appointment so I won't be around till later in the day, but you should all be able to play with each other. Have fun!]

"That's a bitch," Alec said, still watching. "You got a power cord for it?"

"A what?" Demyx blinked at him curiously.

"Power cord? The long plug-thing that came with it so you can charge it up?" Alec mimed a long rope with an electrical plug at the end, giving Demyx a look.

Demyx tilted his head to the side, still lost. "Never heard of it. Do I need one? I thought the whole point of these laptop thingies was portability."

"Nothing's as convenient as it should be," Alec said, smirking. "And yeah, it should've come with one. Can't charge up without it."

"But it always turned on just fine before. I think it's just broken." Demyx prodded at the dead laptop again.

"If it's not responding at all? And the little lights aren't coming on? Then it's got no battery power," Alec said slowly. "Here, I'll show you." He rummaged for the power cord to his own borrowed laptop and plugged Demyx's in. Flipping it open, he pushed the power button.

Demyx watched in amazement as the laptop whirred and booted up. "That's amazing! How did you do it??" He stared at Alec. "Do you have magic?"

Alec stared at Demyx for a long moment. "Yes," he said dryly. "But you need a magic cord for your laptop in order to do it yourself."

"Wow. I've never met anyone with that kind of magic before. I only have water magic. This seems much more useful," he admitted. "Where can I get one of those cords?"

"In town, probably," Alec said, not bothering to correct Demyx. Sometimes tech support did seem like they worked magic, after all. "All and Sundries or, if they don't, on the mainland."

"Ahh...you mean I have to go talk to that jerk guy again?" Demyx frowned. "I don't like him. I'd like to just...just...splash him." A sphere of water appeared in Demyx's hand, and he tossed it in the air and caught it like a baseball.

Alec blinked at the water-ball. "Nice trick," he commented. "Maybe you could just splash him, grab a cord and run. Or get someone to order you one online."

"That'd work...but then he'd really be out for me." The ball disappeared, and Demyx shook his head. "Guess I'll look into my options. How do you...order it online?"

It was very tempting to try out the headdesking thing that seemed pretty popular today, but Alec persevered. "Do you have any friends who own a laptop?" He asked, somewhat hopefully.

"I don't really have many friends," Demyx admitted. "But it's okay. I'll go try to figure this out on my own." He used his brave face, unplugging his laptop and picking it up. "Thanks for the help."

Alec shrugged. "No problem. Good luck, man."
