Archery Workshop #3, 7/25, Danger Shop, Afternoon

The Danger Shop was set as an outdoor archery field: targets, bows, quivers, except this time the arrows had the more traditional points on them, as opposed to suction cups. Also, there was no giant robot and no cows. There were, however, several badgers scampering around. There was no blackboard, as Miho was being optimistic and hoped her students were smart enough to figure out what to do. The sign-in sheet was on a folding table near the entrance.

Miho sat curled up in her chair under the umbrella, glaring at the badgers and occasionally waving the Danger Shop remote at them. It didn't seem to have much effect, except that one turned purple.

At last, real pointy objects! Miho doesn't care if you shoot the badgers.

Peter picked up his bow and loaded an arrow. "I apologize to anyone I shoot," he called out.

He started shooting for the target. A vast improvement over last week, Peter was on or around the target the entire time. Nowhere near the bullseye, granted, but still. Improvement.

Only one badger was shot and Peter was able to perform first aid on it.

Gwynn was quite happy to shoot arrows at the target.

For all your chatty needs.

Peter took some time to gather some bandages for any wounded badgers.

He grew to like the little guys in First Aid last session, okay?

She's listening.

Peter said nothing of karaoke. Also, nothing of any real substance.

"Hi, Miho. Doctor Reid has the same kind of troubles with the shop. I think there's a badger button on the remote."

Miho wondered what the hell had happened to Peter's hair as she scrutinized the remote for a badgers button.

Near the close of class, Susan stops by, hoping to speak with Miho about borrowing archery equipment, or where to obtain some. She waits to the side, then waves hopefully when class is over.

Miho beckoned Susan over to her shaded chair.

"Professor Miho? I'm Susan Pevensie, the school counselor. I believe you had my brother in your archery class last session." Susan stepped over a badger, paused, then carefully picked her way over to Miho, avoiding the purple one, especially. "He mentioned that you might be the right person to ask for information about where to obtain archery equipment. Would you happen to know where I could obtain a decent bow and quiver on the Island?"

On the island? Not so much. There weren't exactly a lot of shops on the island. The girls at the Sin had taken to having the tools of their trade shipped in from Basin City. But Miho had visited a surprisingly well-stocked sporting goods store during a ~~spree~~ ~~exaction of vengeance~~ trip to the mainland. She nodded at Susan, then ripped off the bottom of the sign-in sheet--they didn't need that much paper, anyway--and wrote its address.

Then she added, Or you could try the armored woman.

Susan was surprised at the writing, but decided not to comment on it. "The armored woman?" she asked, curious. "I don't believe I know whom you're referring to--" She stopped, remembering the snow monster attack. "Wait, I think her name is Tex?"

Miho nodded and said softly, "She sells weapons."

Susan smiled brightly, relieved. "And would certainly have the best. Thank you very much, Professor Miho. I need to get back in practice, and your help is appreciated." She paused, considering the Danger Shop. "Is this-- place-- available at other times? For practice?"

Miho shrugged.

"Right, then." Unnerved by the silence, Susan folded the paper up, nodded to Miho and said, "Thank you again," then turned for the exit.

Several badgers seemed to be playing tag. It was rather difficult, getting by them.

I have a Brad Paisley song stuck in my head...
