Comparative Religions

Rogue stands in the front of the classroom looking exceedingly nervous. "Professor Gandalf is not here, er, today, so I'm leading the discussion." She coughs. "Um, we will be discussing Hinduism during this class. Um, there will be more complete notes online after class. Also, we'll be discussing it again next class, so you can ask Gandalf any questions.

"Hinduism is practiced by, um, a very large percentage of the world's population. So, it is worth being studied. While it is techincally a polytheistic religion, it is also considered by some to be monotheistic." Everyone looks bored, she thinks.

She turns around and looks through Gandalf's desk. She finds a recording of Hindu chants and plays it. "Everyone, please tell the class your thoughts on this recording."

[[OOC: I'm going to be taking off, like now. Play it all out wonderfully, like I know you will.]]

I find it both soothing and disturbing. The harmonies are strange to hear, but also seem oddly familiar.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what you mean. Kind of sets the hackles up, right?

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but at the same time I sort of feel a sense of... I don't know... longing?

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Like they've tapped into some sort of place of calm and joy that the rest of us can't find.

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I think that might be it exactly. They seem at peace and that peace is something I've never managed to find.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*mouth twists*

Me either, and I've been meditating since I was little. It's always just out of reach for me--I can't seem to get calm.

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I can be calm. I can be in the middle of a firefight with everything going to hell around me and I can just go to this quiet place in my mind which seems to know just where I should go adn what I should do. But peace... that's an entirely different thing for me. I always feel as if there is something missing.

But then I suppose since everything I am and have can be ripped away from me at a moment's notice - on a madman's whim... (Damn, I hope this stuff stays private.)

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you and me both. I mean, I'm pretty much in this class screaming "I'm a horrible excuse for a Jedi."

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
And I am everything Section wants me to be - the perfect operative.

I have this feeling that Operations will not be pleased with what I am learning here.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They wouldn't be coming here for that Parent-Teacher conference thing at the end of October, will they?

I'm already working on a plan that has Obi-Wan not getting within a ten-kilometer radius of Professor Gandalf.

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*Thinks of Operations and Madeline coming in to pose as Michael's parents*

God, I hope not. But probably.

[OOC:Laughs hysterically at the idea]

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm rather hoping that Obi-Wan'll be on some Outer Rim planet and not able to get here in time.

*thinks that they might send Master Mace "I Live to Call Anakin Skywalker on His Shit" Windu instead*

*shudders* That's going to a very long weekend.

[OOC: Hee! I can't wait. Yay for wacky hijinks :)]

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It is indeed. Any way we can get out of it - play sick, *something*? Send them all the wrong date?

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be very interested in giving the wrong date if I wasn't both horrifyingly bad at lying to Obi-Wan and practically positive Principal Connor would send something out without our knowledge just to stop us from doing this sort of thing.

But there are some interesting beings in the dorm. Maybe that can cook up some kind of non-fatal but unwanted plague to hit around that time?

I mean, if the cafeteria can make potatoes that make you sing, something that makes the entire school sprout feathers or speak in rhyme or be clones of Professor Jerusalem can't be too much to ask, right?

[identity profile] m-samuelle.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd think, wouldn't you!
