Constant Vigilance #2: Friday the 21st, Morning. A Classroom.

Today, the classroom is again arranged in a circle of chairs, stemming from the wooden desk. The Doctor is sitting behind the desk, today. Across the desk is scattered some strange mechanical parts, all wired together. On the dry erase board is one simple word, written in green.

'Plants'

After everyone has sat down, and the time to start has passed, he raps on the desk once, and stands up.

"If you could all pass forwards your essays I asked for, that would be fantastic. We'll be having a special guest in later, and I'd like to get the class formalities out of the way first. Hope you all took the first lesson to heart, after the incidents of last weekend. As far as I could tell, no fatalities, which is absolutely fantastic. Now today, as you can see from the board, we'll be talking about plants." He fiddled with the device he had constructed on the desk, which suddenly sprung to life and began projecting a three-dimensional hologram in the middle of the desk circle. The images began to match the things he was describing.

"Plants are one of the building blocks of an ecosystem. They cycle the air, they form part of the food chain, they're absolutely essential to most planets. The first lesson about plants is, don't take them for granted. The vegetation on a planet can mean your continued life. But I'm sure most of you are more interested in the opposite, which is when plants can mean your death."

The image flickers to that of a humanoid plant form, though very obviously still a plant.

"That, boys and girls, is a Vervoid. Intelligent plant life. Not the product of a planet's natural evolution, but genetic engineering. Last I checked, they still haven't managed to resurface into the universe, which means they are probably extinct. They have the same drives as everyone else, eat, sleep, procreate. The only difference is, they're plant based. Well that, and the fact they decided dead people was the best fertilizer they could get. That led to a bit of trouble. But, thankfully, not all sentient plants are like these fellows." The Doctor switched off the holoprojector.

"That's where the guest comes in. If you would please welcome a very classy lady, proprietor of The Sanctity in town, Pa'u Zotah Zhaan. Now, I'm not even going to give you any more of an introduction. I want you folks to put your skills to the test. Ask questions, learn, live."

After the students have had their discussion with Zhaan, the Doctor thanked her for her time, then knocked on the table again, to draw attention.

"Okay, I've told you a little, and you've met one. I now want you to all brainstorm about ways you deal with them. Hostile and non-hostile. Your groups, which will each be assigned a different form of plant life, are as follows. Conner McKnight and Willow Rosenberg, Cedric Diggory and Seras Victoria, Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki, Kaylee Frye and Jack Harkness, Isabel Evans and Hermione Granger, Cordelia Chase and Peter Pevensie, Timothy Desmond and John Connor, Elizabeth Weir and Pippi Longstocking, and Stark is with Mister Belthazor. Come up with ideas, and propose one to the class. Got it? Good."

After the group activity, the Doctor smiled. "Done for the day, everyone. Quick assignment for next week. Come up with an event from Earth history, from two weeks ago to two million years ago. I'll tell you whether or not I was there, and if I was directly involved or not. There might be prizes involved, so come back with something good! You're all dismissed."

[ooc: Wait for OCD And now it is ready. I'll be falling asleep soon, and I'm actually at work tomorrow, sadly, so It'll be slow reactions from me until I'm home from there. Zhaan's availability depends upon her work schedule, which most likely means only in the evening, tommorow, CST.]

"No, it looks like you're understanding it properly," Sam glanced down at her own handout again. "It looks like they combine their DNA with that of living humans and...subsume them, until they're full-size creatures that breed and infect and create more."

"Like a plant...virus," she accessess further, nose scrutching slightly. "So, another option would be to turn it to the scientists if exploding the hell out of them thing didn't work, to find some sort of anti-virus. Something to act as a sort of anti-catalyst when it comes to combining the DNA." Sakurazaki nods, having sort of reached her limit of scientific-sounding terminology. "But that always takes a while, so exploding is still probably option number one."

"Yes, that's it exactly," Sam nodded. "And I like the idea of coming up with an anti-venom, though we'd have to come up with safety protocols to make sure the same scientists didn't distill it or experiment on it to try to make a biological weapon out of it."

Nodding, Sakurazaki considers such a capablity. "That would be problematic," she finally decides, "but that's why we keep spies very close to them at all times to keep an eye out for any nefarious activity."

Sam blinked at Sakurazaki. "...we have spies now?"

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Why not?" Sakurazaki shrugs. Spies were no problem. She knew of at least five she could enlist within the drop of a hat, herself included. "I mean, if we've got napalm..."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"You can make napalm..." Sam said under her breath.

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I can't make napalm," she says simply, catching the under-her-breath comment as if it were said normally, "but I can get spies." There's another shrug.

"So...it sounds like we have a workable plan?"

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sakurazaki nods. "I'd say so. I'm a little...leery, though. Seems to simple..." Her eyes narrow analytically.

"Well, we'd have to make the napalm and recruit the spies and set up the lab..." Sam said, also trying to find the holes in the plan.

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

More nodding. "I think we're definately good, then."

"Yay," Sam smiled at her, happy that was settled. "So, how do you like Fandom so far?"

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Sakurazaki smiles lightly. "I enjoy it a lot; haven't really even been missing home until just recently. Fandom and my old school are actually pretty similar, with a few exceptions. Are you one of the 'older' students? Samantha, right? Or are you a newbie like me? Although think the newness has really worn off quite a bit."

"Call me Sam," she smiled at her, "and yes, I've been here for almost a full year now. I know exactly what you mean."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

Sakurazaki chuckles a little. "Good to have such a seasoned veteran in my aquantence now."

"Seasoned," Sam's smile quirked a little, "great. And yeah, you get used to all the weird stuff this place throws at you. You said your school was like this one? How so?"

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"All the weird stuff the place throws at you," Sakurazaki grins appriciatively for the conveniently set up response. "Let's just say that half the stuff that's happened here, could have happened in Mahora, to generally the same effect."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm so very sorry..."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Quietly, Sakurazaki laughs at that. "Don't be. I shutter to think of how I would have responded to this place if I didn't have that prior training."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, that's a fair point," she said, then thought of people like Rory, Angela, and Veronica, "although maybe it wouldn't have been as difficult an adjustment as you might have thought."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"A fair point from you, too," she nods, "but it still covers the difference between a seemless transition and a slightly awkward one."

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"True. Would you say that's what your transition was? Seamless?"

Re: Samantha Carter and Setsuna Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
"For all the odd occurances, yes."

Not so much in other areas, but that had nothing to do with the school, so she decided to leave that part of the equation be.
