Archery Workshop #2, 7/18, Danger Shop, Afternoon

The Danger Shop was set up like an outdoor archery field this week, with three targets, three bows, and three quivers of arrows. The arrows, the students would find, were tipped with suction cups. Off to one side was a lawn chair with an umbrella. On the table next to it was the sign-in sheet. An incongruous freestanding blackboard was set up next to the furniture, with the words Beginning Archery. Shoot the targets. Leave when you are done. written on it.

As the students entered, they would find their teacher frantically chasing a large red and purple robot off near the tree line. Miho jabbed at the buttons on the Danger Shop remote in a desperate attempt to shut the thing off, and it finally vanished. She seemed perfectly composed when she returned to the archery field. Miho chose one of the bows, took an arrow, and shot the first target in line as a demonstration. Bullseye. Then she picked up a glass of lemonade and waved for them to begin, then settled back in her chair and watched for any errors in form she might need to correct.

Gwynn is thinking as she shoots her arrows, but they still hit the target.

For the record, this was the first time Peter had ever touched a bow and arrow since he was little and had a tiny plastic set. So it shouldn't have been a surprise when he dropped his first arrow instead of firing it.

He tried again. He managed to fire it, ridiculously off to the left.

After two more tries, he managed to get within two feet of the target. He was improving.

Having never seen a robot before, Gwynn was watching the whole exchange carefully. When Miho made it go away, she smiled and went back to what she was doing.

Making note of the throwing swastika and deciding to stay far enough away so he could dodge if necessary, Peter smiled. "Hi, Miho. I have to say, the robot was a nice addition. You seem to have a very specific and kind of strange sense of detail when it comes to programming the shop. I think it adds a lot of character to the workshop and I, for one, would like to thank you for that."

Peter felt that there may have been enough positives in there that he could claim it was sucking up if he had to.
