Lying and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, Class #2, Library

Following a handwavey e-mail to his students, Jarod was holding class in the library. Even though he had gotten his voice back, he still looked rough--a large piece of gauze was taped to his left temple and forehead. He sat at one of the tables and a large bottle of water was at his side.

"Good afternoon. Last class, you were to decided on what roles you want to play, or what roles you were best suited to play. This class is about fitting into that role better. One of the easiest ways for that to happen is to learn the correct jargon--if you sound like you know what you're talking about and act like you know what you're talking about, people will believe you do, even if you really don't."

"So," he said, taking a few swallows of water, "to that end, use the books and the internet to familiarize yourself with the jargon of your chosen role, and hold a conversation with someone else, using some of it to enhance your credibility. It doesn't have to be complicated--just nice to meet you, what do you do for a living, and go on from there."

"Here is a list of websites to get you started." He passed out a handout. "Good luck."

Pippi has decided to go for "Naval Officer" as this sort of role would be useful in piratical situations.

Lawyers. Something that everyone seemed to need at one point or another. Jack thought it couldn't hurt to give it a shot. Especially in a course devoted to becoming a better liar.

Flitting around the net, he found some (http://www.lawnerds.com/guide/mind.html) interesting (http://www.llrx.com/features/plainlanguage.htm) info. (http://civpro.blogs.com/civil_procedure/2004/10/thinking_like_a.html) ()

Tyler decided to research computer terminology.

That would be why he's tapping his forehead, trying to understand exactly how much bigger a gigabyte is than a kilobyte.

Rory was working with theatre jargon, and carefully scribing notes that likely, no one else could read unless they knew Rory terribly well.

Which, really, might have been helpful for the course anyway.

Z decided to be a military officer, since that was sort of close to the truth, so she would be less likely to slip up.

She was rather disappointed that the vulgar acronyms were not included, because she was pretty sure she was more likely to need those than some of these.

Peter researched human resources jargon. Mainly it seemed to consist of clever euphemisms for giving bad news. That could prove to be interesting.

Parker decided to look up the medical jargon, because what the hell-- should *could* be a doctor, right?

Some (http://www.medterms.com/script/main/hp.asp) sites (http://lii.org/pub/subtopic/2367) looked interesting. Although maybe she'd be better off asking Janet for help.

Sawyer looks up on the military crap, it seemed to be the most interesting to him.

Ranma was confused by his choices (which in fact, included Nurse, Teacher, Writer and Secretary...) He choose Librarian. Because... well it seemed to be the only one he could possibly do.

Elizabeth wondered if it would be cheating to use the political or legal or even military jargon that she already knew.

She decided to go the law route.

After looking over the career list provided for INFPs, Hamlet decided to research the accountant terminology. He'd much prefer the actor career listed on the form, but it seemed much to obvious for a class like this. Besides, accounting seemed farther out in left field.
