*Handwavey* notes appeared for all students that the Jewelry workshop will be in Agatha’s shop.
Agatha came in and surveyed the room. “Welcome guys. This is introductory Jewelry, and I am Agatha. Some of you know me from last term, some of you know me from around town.” She waved to John.

“This workshop is about doing something fun and beautiful. Because really, that is what jewelry is. We will learn basic techniques that will enable you to make several small pieces. However, today we are going to talk a bit about what jewelry is and make sure you are aware of all the safety procedures. Come this way.”

She will walk around the workshop showing them various bits of equipment. “Ok, this is the ventilation hood. Chemicals have to be used under here, and also the torches. These are oxy-acetylene torches, which means they combine the acetylene in this tank with the oxygen around you to burn.” She turns the knob and strikes the striker. “This is how you turn it on. This knob controls the size of flame. Don’t touch the flame, it is hot. Her eis the dremmel machine. It’s a flex-shaft, so be careful. It is for drilling, and for fine polishing work. And this is the pickle solution. Don’t put your hands in here. Also, don’t put ANYTHING that is stainless steel in there, it will copper plate everything you have in there.” She quickly closes the crock-pot of pickle solution, due to the heavy acidic smell. “This is where the tools are kept. There are pliers, and cutters and bristle brushes and everything here. There is also sheet metal and wire. You should have everything you need.” The cabinet is indeed full of all kinds of jewelry supplies, funky shaped saws and files and everything.

“The med kit is here. You should totally not ever need it, but just in case. Now, please introduce yourselves, and tell me, what is Jewelry? Describe a piece of jewelry you have seen that epitomized the term to you.”

Much like yesterday when two of her cabinmates had opted for a mostly clothing free morning, Luna blinked quite a lot. This was not at all what she had expected the class to involve.

"Jewelry is the manifestation of the jewelry maker's personal vision of beauty on a small, wearable scale." Said Luna, who was wearing her gum-wrapper and coral bracelet, and her billywig (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/bestiary_b.html#billywig) broach. Jewelry as seen nowhere else on the planet except in Luna's jewel case.

"Jewelry is something that, ideally, is both decorative and serves a purpose." Xander says with a shrug. "For example, charms or amulets on a chain can make nice-looking necklaces, and also provide protection."

"I've never been big on jewellery just for the purpose of looking pretty, I think it has to also have some kind of meaning behind it. My brother made me a bracelet when he was five, I've always thought it was great just because of that."

Agatah nodded at that too. "Meaning because it was a gift is quite oftne encountered in Jewlry. Utility is another common one."

"Um. Ms Clay? My schedule changed, a bit. I've got a Friday morning class. You want me to open after it?"

"Sure John. Whatcha got on Fridays?"

"Um. I forget, actually. But it's okay to open after class?"

"Yup. Just make sure to check messages in case anyone needed something"

JOhn flipped through his notebook. "COnstant Vigilance. Guess I goofed that up, what with the prepared and all." He glanced around at his fellow classmates.

Luna raised her hand and once acknowledged asked, "shall we be using only metal for our creations, Miss?"

"No, but metal tends to be where the dangerous tools are used, so hence it is what the safety stuff is about. What other materials do you want to use?"

"I usually use whatever's at hand, Miss Agatha, such as butter-beer bottle-caps, vegetables, gum wrappers, returned homework that I no longer need for revising, or anything else I can transfigure into my project."

Agatha nodded. "Found object art is quite common in some kinds of Jewelry. Very good Luna."

What should the kids call Agatha?

Anything they want :) Agatha is what John calls her and that works.
