Like the beginning of the last session of classes, Chloe had set herself up in the Journalism classroom, and was waiting happily for her students to arrive.

Chloe greeted both of her students with a big grin and a syllabus. "Hello," she said, "and welcome to the writing workshop. I'm glad you both found the place okay. Just as a proper introduction, I'm Chloe Sullivan, and please, please just call me Chloe, because that 'Ms. Sullivan' stuff weirds me out."

She snickered and launched into her usual spiel. "So, the basic idea of this workshop is to give you both a chance to experiment with different writing styles that are out there, beyond the ones you might have already written in your own free time." She gave Anders an amused grin at that. "We're going to start with non-fictional styles, and then move onto some of the more entertaining fictional forms. Now, I figure the best way to start would be to talk about writing biographies," she said, ~~*handwavily*~~ sketching some things out on the board.

"What I want you to do is get acquaintanced with each other, if you haven't already done so. Tell each other a little bit about yourselves, and then give me a minimum of 50 words on what you learned."

Anders signed in, wondering how possible it was going to be to hide behind the only other student in the class. Meep.

Anders took a few minutes to write down the notes on the board. He wasn't sketching out a Colonial Pyramid League press-release type bio blurb for himself or anything as a way of stalling, no.

Alanna waved weakly at Chloe. "I wasn't cutting your class, honest."

Kaylee signed in.

Kaylee grinned at Anders. "Hi. I'm Kaylee, by the way. We haven't met before I don't think."

Anders looked up from his notebook. "Kaylee? Hi. I'm Anders, and I guess between the two of us we're the entire class. So I guess we should get started, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess we should," Kaylee said. "I'll start with a basic question. Where ya from?"

"Up there somewhere." Anders pointed vaguely skyward. "I grew up in a town called Delphi on the planet Caprica, which is one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. Just don't ask me to draw a map from here," he added with a chuckle.

"How 'bout you? You from here, or somewhere else?"

"I'm from up there somewhere also," Kaylee said, glancing up. "Before comin' here, I lived on a space ship...500 years or so in the future."

"So don't be asking me to draw a map either," she added with a laugh.

"Hey, good thing this is a writing class, so drawing maps won't be required."

"500 years in the future, huh?" Anders propped his chin up on his hands. "I have no idea how far in the future or the past I am, here. So how come you came here? My parents thought I needed to get away from 'distractions' at my old school." He rolled his eyes.

"Not that I'm complaining."

"I'm here cause I thought it'd be fun," Kaylee said. "No other reason than that. Same with this class cause, to be honest, I ain't much of a writer."

"How come you signed up for this class?"

Anders laughed sheepishly, relieved that she probably hadn't heard that particular radio broadcast. "I tried my hand at a little writing on my own and it didn't go so well, so I thought maybe I could improve some."

He scribbled a couple of things down in his notebook and asked, "So are you having fun here so far? And what sort of stuff do you do for fun?"

"Alanna! Hi!" Chloe said. "I didn't think you were. Are you all right?"

"I'm no longer a statue and Miho didn't kill me, so yeah. Sorry about missing your workshop."

"Maybe I can improve, too," Kaylee added. "I am having fun. It's different here. Can't say I ever faught a jello dragon before."

"I like to fix things like engines. I was my ship's mechanic," she said proudly. "For some reason, I understand that sorta thing. How 'bout you? What do you do for fun?"

"Mechanic, huh?" Anders bit his lip. "Had a feeling, somehow. Or . . . that made no sense. Don't ask."

He cleared his throat and went on to a less emo-inducing topic. "Anyway, um, I like sports. I want to play this sport called Pyramid, from the Colonies back home, but I've gotten really into baseball since I got here. And I'll watch just about any sport on TV."

Kaylee blinked a few times in confusion and then moved on. "I ain't real familiar with baseball. Sometimes we played basketball in the cargo bay, though. That was a good way to pass the time."

Anders snapped his fingers. "Basketball! Yeah, I play that a little bit too, here. I got recruited for the school team, and it's pretty fun. How'd you get to be a ship's mechanic so young, anyway? You must be good."

"Guess I got natural talent. Mal, Serenity's captain, was impressed I was able to get her back up in the sky," Kaylee explained.

Anders got that odd little half-smile on his face again. "Well, that's cool. Is that what you always wanted to do with your life, or more like something that kind of just happened?"

"I always suspected I'd be a mechanic, but I never thought it'd be on a ship," Kaylee said. "I never been on a ship before Serenity.

"And what about you? You always want to be a Pyramid player?"

Anders nodded. "Since I was about five, yeah. And I'm gonna be one -- I mean, I signed a contract to join the league when I get out of school, only now I'm not sure if I want to stay here on the Thirteenth Colony and try to play baseball instead."

He chewed on his pencil and then asked, "So what's it like living on a ship? I've never done a whole lot of space travel, just a couple of short interplanetary flights to visit relatives when I was a kid."

"The Thirteenth Colony? Never heard earth referred to by that before," Kaylee said, her voice filled with curiousity. "I'm sure whatever you decide to do, you'd be real good at it."

She thought about how to answer his question. "Livin' on a ship had its moments. Sometimes, it was real nice and peaceful. Other times, it was a little boring. But I loved it. I miss Serenity a lot."

"Where I come from, most people don't believe Earth exists. They think it's a myth, but the myth says that when the twelve tribes left Kobol and formed colonies in the system we live in now, there was a thirteenth tribe that went somewhere else," Anders explained. "Which is Earth, and since I'm here obviously it's not really a myth, right?"

He could hear the obvious affection for her ship in her voice and smiled. "That's a great name for a ship. What did you guys do?"
