Baking Workshop 7/3, Monday Morning

Piper smiles at the students as they arrive, but this time, it might be a sad smile. This is the last time they'd be in her workshop after all. "I hope you all brought recipes with you this morning. I brought copies of the brownie recipe in case any of you forgot."

She points out the plate of brownies in front of her. "I even made some for you."

"I'll be here if you need help with anything or if you have questions," Piper continues. She looks at all of them. "Thanks for making my first workshop somewhat successful...and for not burning the classroom down."

She couldn't help adding that last part.

Anders sort of stalked up to the front with his finished frittata. He kept his eyes on the counter as he slid the dish over to Piper.

"Hey Anders," Piper said awkwardly. "What did you decide to make today?"

"In theory?" Anders muttered, still staring at the counter. "It's supposed to be a frittata . . . thing."

Piper glanced at the frittata curiously. "Well, it looks like one."

Sort of.

"Don't wanna try it? Wouldn't blame you if you didn't."

Yep, still muttering.

"Of course I'm going to try it," Piper said and immediately did just that. Surprisingly, she didn't regret it. Much. "That's an interesting flavor."

"So it's not that bad?" Anders finally looked up and gave her a half-grudging curious glance.

"No," Piper said. "Maybe it could use less pepper or something, but otherwise, not bad."

"I guess I got carried away with the pepper grinder," he admitted, then kicked at the floor. "Maybe I get carried away with a lot of things."

"It's okay," Piper said quietly. Then she added, "Um, I'm sorry...about what happened last week."

Anders shook his head. "Frak, I'm sorry. It's not your fault. It's mine, if it's anybody's."

"Well, maybe if my former roomies and I didn't insist on...certain things...none of this awkwardness would have happened," Piper said.

"Really, all of the blame should be on Veronica's headtilt," she added, trying to lighten things up a bit.

Anders forced a brief laugh. "None of it would've happened if I'd been good enough to not get dumped in the first place."

Piper gave him a sympathetic smile. "I don't think it had anything to do with that."

She wasn't sure what else to say that could make him feel better.

Anders shrugged. "Every way I think about it, I come to that conclusion. Which is why I guess I'm trying not to think about it."
