Tempe was noticing a trend with today's meal choices. She chose some salmon, some salad, and some Baked Alaska. She avoided the shrimp, because it reminded her of her weetiny kitten army, which reminded her of Glitter, which made her sad. And she avoided the crab legs, because, man, those would be quite labor-intensive to eat at lunch...

She headed to her usual spot, notebook in hand, and set about working on her story while she ate.

Tim entered the cafeteria cautiously. a reasonable voice in his head was saying he should go see a doctor, but he was reluctant to do that right away. He wasn't sure why. Partly it was a desire to try to work this out himself.

Tempe waved. "Hey Tim! Wanna join me for lunch?"

"Uh, yeah sure, thanks." he said, sitting down with a tray of food. "This might sound incredibly rude, but, I've forgotten a lot of stuff. Including your name."

Tempe didn't mention that she was kind of used to people not remembering her name. Or at the very least, butchering it beyond recognition.

"Tempe Brennan," she replied. "Hey, is everything okay?"

Tim sighed. "Not really no." he said. "Put it this way, I'm glad I had my ID on hand this morning when I woke up."

"So, you don't remember who you are either?" Tempe asked, looking a little alarmed. "Has anything happened recently that account for this? Exposed yourself to any hazardous biological agents or anything?"

She paused and then winced. "Sorry. I guess you wouldn't remember that either. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Tim shrugged. "My shoulder and head hurt, and my neck twinges a bit when I turn my head. So I'd guess head trauma. As for helping, well, how well do we know each other?"

Tempe nodded. "It's plausible. And if that's all it is, your memory should come back eventually. Just as soon as the head trauma has healed. I hope. You might want to go to the clinic though, just to make sure you haven't done any irreparable damage."

"How well do we know each other? We're just friends, we've known each other about a month, we periodically have conversations about my ability to be social, I'd love to get to know you better, but I don't think you knew that yet, so that probably doesn't count."

Tim smirked a bit. "Well then aside from the advice to go to the clinic I don't know how much you could help. Thanks though. So...what, brings you here?"

He wasn't sure what this place was really.

"To the dining hall, or to Fandom High in general?" Tempe asked. "The dining hall is because I'm hungry and it's lunchtime. Fandom? Well, that's another story entirely. Involving time travelling, blackouts and foster care."

While a mundane worldview does allow for crazy people, Tim's brain filtered out the Time Travelling remark anyway.

"I meant to Fandom, so this is a high school? A boarding school I'm guessing."

Tempe nodded. "Yep, it's a high school, and a boarding school. And as far as I've been told, people from across time, space, and multiple dimensions attend this school. I think it exists in some sort of interdimensional crossing point."

Once more Tim's brain filtered out most of that. So what he heard was that kids from all over the country, and even from other countries attended.

"So is this place kind of exclusive?" Was he from a rich family?

"I'd say so, yes," Tempe replied. "There are lots of people who go here, but none of their brothers or sisters do. Makes you wonder what they're looking for in an attendee."

Hmm. While that didn't prove or disprove his loony bin theory, thsi girl seemed rather sane.

"Yeah, I'm wondering about that too. None of my clothes seem to be particularly fancy. So, money might not be the deciding factor."

"I don't think it is," Tempe agreed. "But then again, I'm not so sure that academic success is the reason either. Not everyone who's here gets good grades."

tim began to worry. There was only one other kind of school that he could think of that might fit the profile so far. And it wasn't a good one.

Just what sort of person was he?
