The labcoats were by the door and Abby was fairly bouncing up at the front of the computer lab. "Did you guys ever have free swim in elementary school? It was usually when there was some free time or when the teacher was bored and everyone just got to go play in the pool for an hour."

"Today is Internet Free Swim. You guys get to spend time having fun and seeing what the internet has to offer in entertainment. I'm going to point some cool things that I like, but feel free to find your own treasures and show them off to the class. Well, most things you can show off to the class." Abby said with a wink and outlined the four main categories.

"First we've got intellectual fun. Things you read like comics, fanfiction, satire, blogs, and snarky reviews. Secondly we move onto clicky fun. Games, soundboards, puzzles, webquests. There's nothing like doing nothing, so for our third category we've got videos, clips, music, radio, tv shows and cartoons. Finally..." Abby grinned and leaned across the table, "We've got porn. It comes in all shapes and sizes, from vanilla to hard core and there's something for everyone. Even clowns."

She walked around and passed out large red drink cups. "Okay, so go ahead! Swim away and enjoy your Caf-Pow. No internet surfing party is complete without large doses of caffeine and sugar."

"See, it's all in how you present yourself," Cally said. "Now, I'm personally moving away from the brown-haired jock with sexual urge repression issues type. But I'm sure there's a girl here for you. You know, if you want to keep lying to yourself."

"I'm not lying to myself," Conner snapped. "People do stupid things sometimes when they're drunk, and even stupider things when they're drunk and hurting. If I was lying to myself I'd be telling you that I don't mind being a substitute, okay?"

And wow, that was more than he was planning to say.

Cally suddenly felt kinda sorry for Conner.

But definitely not for Anders.

"So, anyways..." she said. "Erm. Yes. Girls will like you even without you kissing boys."

"Oh, good," he said dryly. "Except now I think my reputation is doomed."

"Well, there is a solution. You find yourself a girl as soon as possible before word spreads," Cally said. "Good luck with that."

Conner headdesked a little bit. "Hello, radio?"

"Not everybody listens every day," Cally said. "You might luck out."

"Yeah, and none of the fifty million people at Caritas last night noticed." Conner made a face. "Bel's already giving me a hard time about it."

"Well, at least it's only a hard time and not a hard anything else," Cally said. She then smiled deviously.

"Besides, I've been meaning to ask. And since you're more of a soccer guy than a baseball, I'll ask it in those terms... Who was the one driving in the balls and who was the one leaving their goal wide open?"

Conner started spluttering. His face? As red as his shirt.

"Um, you know how at the end of a tied game in the elimination rounds, everybody takes turns trading off penalty kicks . . . why am I telling you this?"

"I don't know!" Cally said. "Though if you keep that up, you really aren't going to shake that reputation."

"He's so going to kill me for that," Conner muttered, burying his face in his hands. After a moment he sat back up and gave Cally a weird look. "Why is this conversation not more awkward?"

"Because other than my hissy fit last night I'm totally not upset about this?" Cally offered. "I knew something was up with the boy for awhile. This just kinda cemented that, and the fact that I did the right thing."

"I don't think he believes that." Conner shook his head doubtfully. "Yet, anyway. He's trying, but I don't think last night helped much. Not saying he didn't have it coming to him, but . . ."

His eyes glazed over briefly. "That was kinda hot."

"Whoa, don't get all... you really are doomed with the girls, you know that?" Cally shook her head.

Conner stared at her. "I meant watching you and what's her name. He's not bad, though."

"Oh," Cally said. "Piper's her name. Yeah, it was kinda hot. Done for all the wrong reasons, sadly."

"I noticed," Conner said. "Well, you sure got the effect you were going for."

"Well, I did, yeah," Cally said. "But I hope Piper can forgive me for it."

"I'm pretty sure she'll have an easier time doing that than other people will," Conner replied, suddenly a little bit cranky. "I hope you're happy with the results."

"Why, weren't you satisfied enough with them?"

"I was plenty . . . that has nothing to do with it! I --" Conner just sort of stared for a minute. "It's no fun being the rebound guy, okay?"

"Nobody forced you into it," Cally said. "Unless Anders grew a backbone since I dumped him." Cally stood up at that point. "Later," she harrumphed.
