On the table by the unlighted campfire this time is an array of snacks - but the choices range a wee bit from Xander's usual fare of sweet, sweet, and more sweet with a side order of occasionally-healthy-but-still-sweet. There's some sweet stuff there, but it's surrounded by things like Cinnamon Altoids, mega-sour Warheads, a couple of bags of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, and really, really, really salty licorice.

Xander, his fingers finally de-splinted, waves a hand at the spread. "Help yourselves; it's there if you need a little inspiration for today's activity. Which is a really, really hard one, so you'll need a lot of practice - lemme demonstrate." He pops a piece of salty black licorice into his mouth, and makes a face.

After chewing and swallowing with a grimace, he says, "Words are great; I love words. They're pretty essential for stuff like lying and talking yourself out of kidnap situations. But sometimes on a team, you're just not gonna be able to express yourself in words. Maybe because the bad guys might hear you, or maybe because you know if you open your mouth you're gonna tell your team leader exactly what you think of that plan, and that might not be the brightest thing to do at that moment ~~which never tends to stop me~~ -- but you've got to do something. That's where a repertoire of expressive faces comes in handy."

Xander grabs an Atomic Fireball and drops that in his mouth, then makes another face. "Get the idea? You don't have to use the candy; it's just there if you need it. What I want you guys to do today is talk to each other about anything you want -- but no actual talking. You only get to talk with your face, not your voice."

Willow grinned and made a face that said she'd love to hear all about Xander's day.

"I think I'm allowed to cheat, since I'm the teacher," Xander said, grinning back. "And you're allowed to cheat since you're not actually here."

"I had a nice lunch and tomorrow Peter's going to teach me more about using a sword," Willow said with a smile. "You?"

Xander frowned slightly. "I had a twinkie, something's haunting Lana and I sent Bridge to the principal's office to let somebody know in a manner strangely reminiscent of adult behavior, and I hope the sword thing isn't a euphemism unless you want it to be."

Willow thwapped him on the arm. "Actual sword! Well, wooden. But he said I did very well with it last time."

Willow sipped from a juicebox thoughtfully. "Lana's the one who works in Giles's shop, right? Is she okay?"

Xander nodded. "Yeah. Well, yeah, she works in Giles' shop. I hope she's okay; Bridge wanted to go after her, but I figured if there's something funky going on we should maybe let the grownuppy-style people in on it for once, since for once we're in a place where the grown-ups would believe us."

"Uh-huh," Willow said. "So should I start making with the book research?"

Xander thought about it. "Couldn't hurt, but all we have right now is 'somebody or something most people can't see.' That and whatever it was, it freaked Lana out."

"Have any students here been ignored lately?" Willow asked. "Which, granted, might be hard to tell if you're one of the ones doing it. But it's a place to start."

"Hrrm. Good thought. Except it's kinda hard to get ignored around here what with the shrub and his army of squirrels," Xander pointed out.

"With the what now?" Willow asked.

"Barbossa. He says the squirrels spy on us for him."

"Did he have any rum first?"

"Willow, you never, ever have to ask that question," Xander said seriously.

"I like his radio show," Willow said. "He's got lots of helpful advice."

Xander gave her a concerned look. Or possibly a mock-concerned one. "Well, he's definitely funny. I'd steer clear of the rum or killing-people related advice, though."

"Xander," Willow said, giving him a Look. "Why would I ask about killing people?"

"Sometimes he gives killing-people answers to love-life questions," Xander explained. "Or at least taking-people-out-and-shooting-them advice."

"Sometimes that needs to happen," Willow said, seemingly serious.

"Sometimes you worry me," Xander said, not sure how serious he was.

"So I take it Bridge is over his hangover?" Willow asked, as though there'd been nothing to worry about on her end.

"I'm gonna assume there was a segue there," Xander answered, since the idea of Willow associating Bridge with being taken out and shot didn't appeal. "And say yes. I think the pancakes mostly did the trick."

"Poor Anders," Willow said. "At least he's got friends looking out for him. I tried to give Bridge some of the basics on how to help a friend post-breakup. He seemed eager to do the right thing."

Xander looked thoughtfully at her. "You know, I might need a refresher on those, considering the only time I was ever around for somebody's breakup that wasn't Season 85 of the Buffy and Angel Show, it was mine. What're the basics?"

Willow ticked the points off on her fingers. "Sympathy, offers of chocolate and/or ice cream, distraction - movies are always good, being willing to beat up the ex verbally or physically if need be, and alcohol if the situation calls for it."
