Piper smiles at the students as they arrive. "We're going to make chocolate chip cookies today. As always, I brought some samples."

"Next week, you get to bake whatever you want. I'd like each of you to find a recipe before then. They can easily be found online," she continues. She peers at all of them warily. "Try not to choose something that requires open flames."

Then she hands them a list of ingredients and instructions. "Feel free to ask questions if you have any."

Ingredients

2 sticks butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated white sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 extra large eggs

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine butter, margarine, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixer bowl.

Add eggs one at a time, beating until fully incorporated.

Add vanilla extract and beat in.

Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.

Add to the wet mixture.

Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Let stand for about 1 minute and remove from hot baking sheet to cool on rack.

"I'm not sure," Anders sputtered. "I think that's the problem. Because there's liking sports, and then there's liking sports, and sometimes too much of a good thing can be really, really bad."

"You mean like if you do nothing but wear baseball hats, shirts, pants, underwear, and jammies all the time?" Willow said, trying to understand.

Anders shut his eyes and tried very hard to block out the memory of certain people who wore boxers with soccer ball patterns on them. Which was really kind of pot-kettle-black considering his own boxers had Pyramid team insignia on them.

"Actually? Yes. It's exactly like that."

Facepalm. Ow.

"Or if you started doing - whaddya call it?" Willow asked, snapping her fingers as she tried to remember. "Sports Fantasy?"

Anders squeaked, and wow, he hadn't done that in a long time. "Yeah, that's, uh, taking things a little too far. And yet." He facepalmed again and mumbled into his hand, "Somehow, bizarrely educational."

"I guess," Willow said, slowly. "Maybe if there's a lot of math."

"I think there's weird geometry involved --" Oh. Oh, that kind of sports fantasy. Anders coughed and scurried over to put his tray of cookies into the oven. "I mean, statistics. Which I'm not so good at, yet."

"It's too advanced for my spots knowledge," Willow admitted. "About all I can do is watch the guys do their thing."

". . . meep,", said Anders. Yes, he actually said meep. "Girls around here seem to, uh, like doing that. The watching, I mean."

"We're being supportive," Willow said, finally putting her finished cookie blobs into the oven. "Would you rather we turned our noses up and sniffed about how dumb you were all being?"

"I, uh." Once more, with flailing. "Not really, no? Even though sometimes it's true?"

"See?" Willow said. She set her timer. "We may not understand why you want to do it, but at least we can watch and cheer."

"No! No cheering!"

Willow looked confused again. "But Peter likes it when I cheer."

"I, um." Anders flailed a little bit. "It's a personal preference thing?"

"Oh," Willow said. "I guess that makes sense. So you don't like it when girls cheer while you're doing your guy sporting thing?"

"Um." Anders shifted uncomfortably. "Me personally? Not so much."

"I'll try to remember that if I'm ever in the room while you're doing it then," Willow said.

Headache be damned. Anders facepalmed again.

"Need some aspirin?" Willow guessed.

"I've got some, but thanks," Anders said with a tiny smile.

"An ice bag to the back of the neck can help too,"Willow said.

"Oh, good idea. I'll do that when I get out of here," Anders said, just as the timer on his oven went off. "And with any luck, now I'll have melty chocolatey goodness for later."
