Karate, Gym, June 21st, Wednesday Morning

"Today, we'll be practicing the Pangolin style," Tommy says, once the students have arrived.

"Now, I realise that some of you may be wondering about these martial arts styles. Some of them seem quite unusual, compared to some more mainstream styles, I know." He says, as he demonstrates the Pangolin style of karate. "But my reasons for teaching you them will all become clear during our final session, trust me."

"I only had pink hair that one day!" Peter protested with a grin. "She is indeed. We bet on who'd win, and since neither of us did...seemed only right to fulfill the terms."

"It does seem fair," she replied. "Though I still think it's lousy that England didn't win."

Peter shook his head. "Me too, trust me. That last goal. What were the defenders thinking?" He grinned. "So how do you do today on Midsummer, Lyta?"

She shrugged before bringing her feet together and bending at the waist to touch her toes. Her ponytail bobbed a bit as she stretched. When she stood back up, her face was almost as red as her hair. "Not bad, really. As warm as it is, I'm contemplating some time at the beach. How about you? Aside from wearing blue and gold?"

"It is rather warm out, isn't it?" Peter agreed. "I'd think the ocean would be lovely. And I'm well. This is a big holiday at home, so it feels rather odd treating it like a normal day here, but I can hardly complain as there is no pudding rain or weetiny frogs."

It was hot enough that the frogs would be basting on the sidewalks. Lyta fought not to grimace at that thought. "The twenty-first is a holiday for you?" She mused on this. "I know, back when my mother was young, she celebrated the summer solstice. Any connection between the two?"

[Sorry to leave you hanging, but I really gotta go home! Be back later this evening.]

"Midsummer is, so yes, the solstice," Peter agreed. "Longest day of the year, how can one NOT celebrate it?"

Lyta shrugged. "Well, if you're a night owl or a vampire -- which this place has seen both -- it might not be a good day." She grinned.

"That's a good point," Peter remarked. "It's just a major holiday at home. We don't have vampires there. And even night owls can celebrate the sun once in a while."

Lyta began to move through a pattern similar to that Tommy showed them earlier. It wasn't perfect, but she was trying.

"Part of me wonders if he's just making these names up as he goes along..."

Peter started the form as well, trying to keep in mind Pip's instructions the other day as well as Dr. Oliver's movements.

"I think you might be right. Maybe he's trying to interest more in the forms by naming it after something that we can 'relate' to?" Peter asked stifling a laugh.

"Well, I was in Three Toed Sloth. I wonder if that extra toe is for self defense?"

Now she was getting silly.
