Anakin and Ahsoka were in front of the Portalocity market with sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen for the class. Because safety first when trying not to die. "Are you sufficiently prepared for this first adventure?" Anakin asked, looking the class over. "Possibly."

"In any case, we'll be easing you into it." You know, for somewhat deranged Jedi standards of take it easy.

"Nothing will be trying to eat you today, which is more than generous," said the man with a lava river.

Ahsoka debated how reassuring pointing that there probably wouldn't be anything trying to eat them most weeks would actually be.

"We are going to Madagascar today," Anakin said while Ahsoka pondered. "It's that big island on the map near the continent of Africa. Put on your sunscreen, and your hats so we can find you."

The hats were various shades of highlighter green and orange.

It wasn't hard to guess who had chosen them.

He had an aesthetic, it was true. "Don't get lost. We'll see you at the final meeting point," Anakin said.

The class arrived in front of the Black Angel Statue near Lake Anosy in Antananarivo. Anakin and Ahsoka made sure everyone got through the portal before gesturing at the box holding their clues and disappearing.

In Long Sleep, the students travel 2.2 miles (3.5 km) to an open market, where they will pair up with a local to wrap four mattresses with a cover and deliver them on foot approximately one mile (1.6 km) through the streets of Antananarivo to a specific address in order to receive their next clue. In Short Letter, the students will travel 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to a paper-working station where they have to successfully make 15 pieces of handcrafted paper in order to receive their next clue.

Each student had to go up (and down, and up and down, and up and down) a steep staircase and find four different rubber stamp vendors with stamps matching those on their clue. There are many, many more than four rubber stamp vendors on this staircase.

Every day is leg day with Anakin and Ahsoka!

Because your legs aren't jelly already, you have to walk twenty minutes (back up the damned staircase) to meet them at Cathedral Andohalo!

Charlie Gale

Charlie was absolutely doing the short letter detour since she had no intention of trying to carry four mattresses for a mile. She wasn't the best at making handcrafted paper, but she made it through.

Charlie might have used the tiniest charm to help her legs be speedy and strong. Finding the different stamps was actually fun and if she hadn't been racing she might have taken more time to look the others over more closely.

Last leg! Charlie hustled her way back up the steps, though by the time she'd reached the top it was a bit more if a shuffle.

Henry of Skalitz

Henry was not unfamiliar with the concept of carrying heavy objects for longer periods of time. So he'd taken the mattresses and taken off on foot.

And promptly gotten distracted by conversation at least four times along the route.

... It really was a shame Henry was so distractable ~~and may have even accidentally picked up a side quest along the way~~.

On the other hand, he did have a number of pleasant conversations and made it to the end of the staircase with a free piece of fruit of some sort, so it wasn't a full loss.

There had been fruit. And then there had been cheese. And some other food Henry hadn't known the name of, and only then had he gotten to walking, and--

"Ah, I'm late, aren't I?"

Sairis

Sairis had no idea what was going on. He'd thought from the name it would be instructions on how to be safe in dangerous places.

This...did not seem like that.

He wasn't sure what lugging mattresses around had to do with not dying.

If there was one thing Sairis knew how to do, it was run errands up and down steps. When you lived in a tower, it was sort of a life skill.

He also had a good eye for details. (Well, when he was wearing his glasses.)

He still wasn't sure he was learning much, though.

Sairis started back up the steps, but one of the stamp vendors accosted him. They didn't seem hostile, but he also had no idea what they were saying, so it took a while to extricate himself.

At which point he fled up as fast as he could.

Cal Kestis

Did Cal take the most direct route in his travel? Probably not, but he wasn't the best at making paper so he had to make up time somewhere!

After living on the island for long enough, one would think that Cal would be great at stairs, but matching patterns (or, really, being patient enough to match patterns) was not his strong suit.

Okay, one last run of stairs, Cal could do this and thoroughly enjoy laying down on the ground at the end.

Rey Skywalker

It was pretty here! And also Rey had taken that comment about nothing neg eating them and made a note to set a rule for the warehouse.

Was it okay to cheat? It was Anakin, so probably. Rey had figured the mattress thing was her best bet, but she hadn't expected the cover to be so hard to get on, and one time it tore...

She made decent ish time once that was all settled though!

Between the island and Ahch-To, stairs don't scare Rey. She did have some mild trouble finding the correct stamp vendors, though.

Stairs still didn't scare Rey! She was mostly not allowing herself to think about how her legs were holding up until she'd run up to the top, and now she was going to sit down and not move. Ever.

Vi was used to doing a lot of heavy lifting around the store, so this wasn't exactly the hardest thing she'd had to do in a class here.

Call Vi suspicious, but having this roadblock here was setting off warning bells in the back of her mind, so instead of pushing herself to do this as fast as she possibly could, she took her time about it

Oh, look, a completely shocking development.

Vi was far enough at he back of the pack she wasn't going to make up any lost ground, but she had enough breath to enjoy the view, so who was the real winner here?
