Wilderness Survival - Week 3| Thursday Morning, A Clearing in the Woods

Callisto pointed to the lockbox. "Shoes."

Once she had everyone's shoes, she started walking out of the clearing. "Follow."

Then she took them on a little scenic walk.

With lots of lovely terrain, like mud, sand, rocks, dense undergrowth, a small pond or three.

And lets not forget the ever present pudding rain.

When they finally reached the end of the walking trail, she turned around to face the class.

"Dismissed."

"Yes?"

He tilted his head. "Boots, please? Or is there something else we need to do to get them back?"

"Tell me the point of the lesson?"

"Stamina? Endurance? Don't count on having your boots on when you get stranded somewhere and have to take a really long nature hike while it's raining pudding?" Cameron tried.

"No."

"Okay, how about you shouldn't blindly follow orders from someone who's in a bad mood and trying to give you blisters because there's no real point to what she's making you do?" Cameron pretty much expected to get clubbed right now.

"Yes," Callisto threw the keys of the lockbox to Cameron. "The point was there is no point."

Catching the keys, Cameron really wished he's said something before his feet got sore. He didn't however move to get his boots back just yet. "Are you alright?" he asked, lowering his voice.

"I'm fine," Callisto replied flatly.

"Yeah, you sound it," he sighed and palmed the keys. "You probably don't want to hear this and I'll shut up in a second, but if something's wrong... there's people here who care. We'll listen if you want to talk and trust me, I've had enough trouble this week because I kept things bottled up."

"I doubt they'll want to hear it."

"You'd be surprised," Cameron told her simply.

"People rarely want to hear things like this."

"Maybe it'd be hard to listen to, but you won't know unless you try," Cameron shrugged.

"You really want to know?" Callisto asked.

"No," Cameron said as that wasn't his point. "It's just clear that something's bothering you and I really want you to not feel like you have to deal with it on your own."

"Cameron, you're a sweet kid," Callisto said, rubbing her forehead. "But you should save your advice for someone who can actually be helped."

Cameron rolled his eyes. "Don't give me that. You can be helped as much as the next person, you just got to want it."

"Sure, just have to join Mass Murderers Anonymous," Callisto snorted. "Do the whole twelve step program thing."

Cameron did a take back at her reply, not sure where that had come from. "Mass Murderers Anonymous?" he repeated.

"I led an army Cameron. What do you think we did? Rescue puppies and kittens?"

"No," Cameron said because that was hard to believe after she told him about the revenge she wanted to take. "I just know what I've seen here. I was there when you got injured, remember? I wouldn't be wasting me breath here if I thought you were the next Genghis Khan."

"" Callisto muttered.

Not sure if he'd picked up on that correctly, Cameron tilted his head. "What?"

"Not important," Callisto lied like a lying thing that lied.
