Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

It always felt like a bit of a stretch to call an event in January a "picnic," and the weather today wasn't helping with how seasonably cold it was outside. Thankfully, there was plenty of warm food to keep everyone toasty, along with as many carafes as The Perk would offer, filled with hot water for tea, light and dark roast coffee, and hot chocolate.

It was time to welcome in another new semester, everyone!

"That's what I'm trying to find out, darling," Liliana said. "And see if we need to have a little chat about manners and how to behave while on the island."

Liliana didn't care about how they comported themselves away from the island. Who didn't commit atrocities from time to time, you know? She just didn't want to anybody making problems here. Where she would have to deal with them.

"How do necromancers in your world respond to another necromancer coming into their territory?"

"We mostly don't cross paths," Erasmus said. "There aren't that many of us, and no one knows who the others are." Because of the warlocks' refusal to keep any helpful records whatsoever. "I don't think I would care? Probably? Unless the other guy needed help or was causing a problem or something."

There were a couple of layers of irony in these statements that he was too far pre-canon to appreciate.

"Good to hear it," she said. "It's not unheard of where I'm from for there to be fights over territory, but that's less about being a necromancer and more about being a magic user in general. Men. Constantly fighting over the size of their towers." She rolled her eyes.

Although, that reminded her. "How is your father, darling? And your delightful mother as well?"

"Some species are territorial, where I'm from," Erasmus allowed. "Werewolves, and vampires. Some kinds of pixies, but that's--different."

Ugh, Liliana, did you have to remind him of you and his parents? "They're doing well. They send their regards." Ugh. "We had a nice time celebrating Christmas and the solstice over the break. I hope you had a nice break, too?"

"It depends on the type of vampire, werewolf, and pixie where I'm from," Liliana said. "They're all broadly the same, but have different planar specificities."

Like how the ones on Innistrad weren't actually even dead!

"I did, darling, thank you. I will say, the last time I spoke to your father--" don't even worry about when that was, Erasmus, "--he mentioned you had reconsidered your stance on necromancy lessons?"

Look how diplomatically she'd put that!
