Great British Bake Off (But American) - Thursday 10/9
Steve and Tony were standing behind their own contribution of a bake sale Showstopper: brownies, Rice Krispie treats with entirely too many sprinkles that somehow also managed to be too crunchy, and a gluten-free...something...that was definitely healthy and sort of cake-adjacent? Maybe? Kind of crepe-like?
Look, your teachers were not amazing bakers. Hopefully the students were getting better, though. "Hi!" Steve said enthusiastically. "We can't wait to try your bake sales!"
"It'll be something to try before we get into salads," Tony said. "Which aren't quite the salads we think of these days. The start will be your take on either chicken, egg, or tuna salad. A deli classic."
Who didn't like a mayo based salad?
"Because it's a baking class," Steve said, "you also have to bake your choice of carb to put your salad in: crackers, flat bread, bagels if you're feeling especially fancy--"
"Egg salad on a sesame seed bagel," Tony sighed like it would be the best food in the world. Which might have been putting his thumb on the scale, but whatever. "We're going into the city after this. Decided."
"Yes," Steve said, grinning. "We'll bring you back bagels," he promised the class. "And after we've tried those salads, your technical challenge is a Midwest classic of a salad that isn't a salad because it's dessert!"
Why, Upper Midwest. Why?
"The cottage cheese jello salad." Oh, Tony had regrets already.
"Yum!" Steve, no.
Tony shot him a concerned look for that. "And then, for homework, we want you to make us a layered jello dish with a design inside it."
"But not the American flag," Steve said. "That's too easy."
Was it, though?
