The danger shop is divided into four sections. The first is just an open space with hardwood floors and windows high off the ground, somewhat resembling the open floor of a high school gymnasium. The second is a row of desks, like one might find in a typical high school classroom. The third looks vaguely high school cafeteria-ish, and fourth, furthest from the door, looks like, of all things, a basement, filled with basement-y things like old, forgotten souvenirs, with a cracked, cement floor.

Artie sits at one of the desks as the students arrive.

"They think I died with my mother when Piper vanquished her," Bel explained. "But Angel knocked me out of the way in time."

"Isabel told me a bit about your mom," Dawn said, looking down at her hands, unsure what to do with them, "and I'm sorry you had to go after her. That must have been difficult. And good for Angel."

"Kinda," Bel said, "but not really. I hated her. She was never really a mother to me. She thought I was weak because I was half human."

"Do you think that?" Yeah, okay, probably too personal. "Er, you don't have to answer, obviously."

"Sometimes," Bel admitted. "I used to all the time."

"If anything, I would think it gives you an advantage. You know how humans think, so it's easier to destroy them," Dawn said, "I'm pretty sure that Angelus and Spike used to think of it that way. Er, not that I ever talked to Angelus about this."

"That's why I was sent to Fandom High," Bel said. "To get in touch with my human side. I buried it for so long. But it kinda backfired. I got too much in touch with it."

"Because of Phoebe, right?" Dawn asked, glancing over at her. "You fell in love with a witch?"

"Who'd've thought it possible?" Bel said. He shook his head. "That's like a slayer and a vampire, isn't it?"

"Yes," Dawn nodded, smiling slightly, then said, very quietly, "Or like a slayer and two vampires." Louder, she said, "That can't be easy, though."

Bel shook his head. "No, it's not," he said. "It's kinda why I'm in detention."

"Really? What happened?"

"John Connor over there had a nightmare the other night and flipped out," Bel said. "He attacked me. He hurt Lana and Maia and when I was afraid he was going to hurt Phoebe, I snapped and went all demony on him."

Dawn glanced over at John, then over to Phoebe, then back at Bel. "I'm sorry. Seems like a lousy reason to be in here. At least I know I deserved mine."

"What'd you do?" Bel asked.

"I'm a Meerkat," Dawn rolled her eyes, "and I was caught pranking the Stickbugs. No idea when, but evidence was on camera, so there was no question. And that was before they made our cabin disappear," she grumbled. "Which had a good side effect, but it would have been nice to have my own clothes to change into."

"Good side effect?" Bel asked.

She blushed. Figured he'd pick up on that. "Spent the night in Seahorse cabin."

Bel caught the blush and grinned. "Anyone I know?"

"Yes..." Dawn ducked her head, "and technically, I guess you're the reason we started talking to each other."

Bel raised an eyebrow. "Well, then I guess you should thank me," he said with another grin.

"Thank you for getting into a pissing match with the guy I ended up dating," Dawn laughed, "so I could step in between you like a moron."
