Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

So, it wasn't Fall yet by a long shot. The temperatures were still high, the leaves were still green, and the calendar still said August. But the calendar of consumerism didn't care about reality and thus, the welcome picnic was decorated for fall. The tables were covered in reds, oranges, and yellows, there was apple cider in the punch bowls and, of course, if the food on the table could come in pumpkin spice form, it was here in pumpkin spice form.

"That can't be right," Erasmus muttered as he looked at the list, which was short and clear enough that he shouldn't be saying that.

It wasn't so much that he'd expected a room to himself as he hadn't expected them to make somebody share with him, was all. Here was hoping Henry of Skalitz was as cool with necromancer cooties as everyone else had been so far, but that sounded like a nobility kind of name or something, so...Erasmus had his doubts.

Henry, for his part, had only ambled into the picnic this morning because he was hungry. He'd left Pebbles at the stable, and spent some time with his sketchbook the previous night to double-check that yes, the pressed flowers were still here, and...

Well, anyway. He wandered past the list several times, reading not being his best and most practiced skill, until he finally caught sight of the Skalitz bit and came closer to examine it. "Hm," he said, as he stepped up beside the other person eyeing the list, and squinted. "Eh-- rah... zzz? No, that's an 's', isn't it?"

Look, he got it. It was very much a warlock kind of name.

"Ah! Erasmus. Thank you, that would be it," Henry said, glancing aside with a smile on his face. "I'm still working on my reading."

"Were you looking for me?" Erasmus asked. "I'm Erasmus. Erasmus Boone."

"Henry, from Skalitz," Henry offered. "Wasn't looking for you, just caught my name on the paper. I think?"

He looked back at the list. He squinted. "Yes. That would be me."

"Oh," Erasmus said, and scrubbed a hand through his hair. "So, uh, apparently we're supposed to be roommates?"

"Suppose that explains the other cot in the room," Henry mused. Then realized that might seem a tad mysterious in context. "I've been here for three months and change so far," he said. "It's an odd place. But the room is quite nice."

"Oh, you've--you've had the room to yourself until now?" Awkward. "I'm sorry, I didn't--I don't mean to impose, or...or anything."

Henry blinked back at him. Yes, the quiet had been nice, especially during the early weeks, when all he could do with himself was sit there and stare at the walls. But it had also stifled and isolated, especially as he struggled to learn how to even venture out into this world.

It wasn't like he was unused to sharing sleeping spaces, either.

"Ah, you're alright," he said. "You've as much of a right to have a place to sleep as I do, don't you?"

Well, a roommate she could deal with. And Billie was... enthusiastic. They'd just both have to adjust to like electronic parts being scattered around the room. And probably a lot of music being play.

“You’re sticking around!” she cried as she saw the list. She beamed at Riri. “Excellent!”

"Apparently I was already enrolled," she said with an expression that said how weird that was. Like, kidnapped to Wakanda weird. "And something about a moose?"

Anakin, why would you do that to her?

“A moose?” Billie tilted her head. “Woah.”

She did not seem anywhere near surprised enough to be hearing that.

“I bet there’s time travel involved. You probably came back to sign yourself up after you graduated or something!”

"Let's hope I'm not time travelling," she settled on. "Because that implies something bad happened to necessitate it."

“Or that something bad would have happened without it,” Billie said. “In my experience, time travel is largely preventative.”

She would not like them. At all.

“Oh yeah, classes!” Billie grinned. “The course catalog here is most eclectic. I signed up for . . .” She visibly thought back. “. . . Cryptozoology, Diplomacy, and Food Adventures.”

Ohhhh. Blow off classes. Riri had... honestly never taken one of those before. She'd been focused. And eager to prove a professor or two was wrong.

"Any idea where I can get my schedule?" she asked. "Kinda hoping that the 'moose' is a joke to make new people ask."

Oh. Oh, Riri. No. The moose was real and surly.
