fandomhigh | Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday mid-morning

It was going to be impossible to compete with the ocean yeeting from last week, so Anakin went in a completely different direction today, with twelve individual tables set up around the park. On the tables were an electric hot plate (plugged in via extension cords that were definitely tripping hazards), a small bowl, a pot that didn't sit level, a coffee mug, a dull chef's knife, a metal soup spoon, a spatula, a chopping board, and a plate.

In the center of the clearing was one rice cooker, one microwave, one ice cream maker, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. There were protein choices inside the fridge under the table holding the small appliances.

Anakin, wearing an Kiss the Cook (but tacky) apron, waved at the ~~incoming victims~~ inhabitants as they arrived. "Today we're mastering the art of cooking in a dormitory. Well, a dormitory not as good as the ones here. Cooking in a bad bachelor apartment! Using only the equipment I have provided, make a savory dish that would impress a first date. You'll have an hour. Halfway through I will pair you up and you will work together to make a dessert. Listen for your name and come grab your apron!"

At least there's no yeeting?

Every person for themselves, but you get these...okay, very objectifying...aprons!

Interact while picking out ingredients (there's lots of weird stuff, but only two chicken breasts, for instance!). Fight over the microwave! Steal someone else's pot because you need it! Anakin doesn't care.

Spoiler: the ice cream machine doesn't work. The ice cream machine never works.

Who doesn't cook. Can you tell?

Whew.

Stark had walked over here on purpose today. Tempting fate but mostly wanting to know what Anakin had in store as a follow-up to last week.

He had a bad feeling about this.

Well, now Stark had a worse feeling than before! And he had a questionable apron. Yay?

"I feel like if I don't do something with jello for this," Summer informed....warned?...Don very seriously, "there could be riots."

There was a bunch of new stuff being installed at the storefront that day, and since Summer didn't want to be too much in the way or too, like, overlordy about it, and since she noticed it was Wednesday in Fandom, she figured it was a good time to hop a portal back for a bit while the work got done.

Yes, she knew that coming to scope out the shenanigans put her at risk of participating in them, too, but she might even have been counting on it.

"Hi!"

Well, that improved Stark's day considerably already. Even if he was pretty sure he was doomed as far as being voluntold.

"No," Summer responded with a cheerful, pleased sort of loftiness, because, really? One of the best things about going away for a bit is how people responded when you unexpectedly showed up again, "not yet. How's it going, Stark?"

Summer was making a face, because this apron could have been salvaged and workable as a sort of cute irony if it weren't for just the deeply unappealing art on it, ugh. But at least she wouldn't feel the least bit bad about it if it were to get dirty.

Well, on the bright side, at least Eleanor had always been pretty used to scrapping together food in a dormitory setting, pretty much since she was big enough to use a stove. It usually wasn't anything great, not by a longshot, but she had a feeling that 'great' wasn't the expectation for something like this, anyway.

"Maybe later," Stark suggested, grinning a little.

"It's going well," he said. "But then I haven't been subjected to Anakin's nonsense yet. Last week's was... interesting."

After last week, Luma had considered staunchly refusing to come again, but Eleanor convinced her on account of it being the last one. So while it was a vast improvement thanks to not involving her having to get wet, she still wasn't thrilled about it. She'd never bothered learning to cook much of anything, because when she was home, she had her aunt Margaret and a taste for raw meat, and here, there was the glorious options of take-out and apparently never-ending food options in the dorm rooms. So this could get...interesting.

She was mostly wondering if she could just convince Eleanor to somehow do her work for her, too.

"Probably not," Summer offered, with an apologetic wrinkle of her nose, but she figured it was probably best to nip that expectation in the bud as quickly as possible. "I'm really only here because I have a few hours to kill while they put in some new equipment and fixtures at the new shop, and the timing worked out nicely to catch..." She gestured toward the set-up, "...whatever this is going to be. What was it last week?"

Oh sure, just crush his glowy little hopes right away.

"It was in the water," Stark said, trying not to look too disappointed. "With a very large inflatable raft and we bounced each other into the water off of it?"

There was a hand gesture meant to convey jumping followed by another attempting to show what it was like to be yeeted into the air and then the water.

"With very ugly shirts for swimming in."

"Only here for the morning then?"

Rey might actually be good at this!

Buuuut she also had to wear that apron so it felt a little like breaking even.

"You're here!" Rey greeted her.

"I'm less good at desserts," Rey established.

"I am!" Summer confirmed, arms opening as if to offer further proof, and then she laughed, moving those open arms to pull Rey into a hug. "Just for a bit, though. I have a few hours to kill while some work get done on the new shop, so I thought, eh. Why not? How'd you been?"

Don was from New York. He was a surgeon. He'd lived in Tony Stark's houses for a large chunk of his life. He didn't cook.

This was going to be...interesting.

"I have no idea what I'm doing, so I support you in that entirely," Don told her. "I can sous chef?" Hopefully.

Aw, heck yeah, a new apron for his collection!

Raiden didn't get the entendre and was wondering why this guy was so defensive of his bread products.
