As the students approached, they should see a number of boats, oars, and, of course, the bright orange PFDs.

"Good morning, everyone," Jarod said as he looked warily up at the sky, which was very cloudy. "Assuming the weather holds, today we'll be canoeing."

"First are the parts of the boat," Jarod said, as he pointed them out. "Next, there are several strokes," he said, demonstrating, "paddling a canoe should feel very different to you from paddling a kayak. First, you have to put one hand on the butt and the other on the shaft, and you should keep your hands in the same position, instead of twisting your wrists like you did last week."

"Finally, you choose your paddle by putting the butt on your foot. The height of the blade of the paddle should be between your eyes and your nose. So!" He smiled brightly, "go forth and paddle, but if there's thunder, be prepared to come back in."

[ooc: Assuming everyone shows up, we have an odd number of students in the class, so Jarod'll canoe with the last person to sign in--solo canoeing is a completely different activity and requires a lot more expertise.]

Jack picked up the other end and laughed at Izzy's expression. "Here, you get in first, and I'll hold it steady."

"Thank you. My toes appreciate it," she said as she climbed in and got settled in the front seat. "Take us to sea captain."

Jack very carefully climbed in, and grapsed his paddle.

One hand on the butt. One hand on the shaft. Snickering under his breath.

"Captain, huh? I like the sound of that." He dipped his paddle in the water and pushed them gently away from the shore.

"Just as long as I don't have to call you Captain Bligh, we'll do fine," Isabel chuckled as she started to move the paddle through the water. "So what have you been up to in the less then twenty-four hours it's been since I've seen you last?"

"Has it been less that 24 hours? It feels like it's been an entire lifetime without you beside me." Even Jack couldn't keep a straight face through that one, so he was laughing by the end of it. "But seriously, I haven't been up to anything, except hoping the weather behaves itself for Saturday. What about you?"

Isabel snorted and looked over her shoulder at Jack. "That's laying it on pretty thick. Even for you. What's Saturday?"

"But you know I can't resist you, Izzy." He was still laughing. "And Saturday I'm supposed to be taking Sam to the beach for a late night swim and picnic, but if it rains, I'll have to come up with something else."

More snorting, and possibly a splash of water. "This is going to sound like a silly question. But which Sam? Carter or Dean's brother?"

"Why would that be a silly question? They're both lovely. But Sam Carter is who I mean." Dipping his paddle into the water, he angled the canoe towards the ocean.

"I haven't met Dean's brother yet, but he's Dawn's roommate. She says he's nice." Isabel quickly settled into a rhythm and paddle along. "Sam Carter is very nice. I hope you have fun."

"Sam's very nice. I want to do something for her that she'll really like," he said, matching her rhythym. "She kissed me in a tree." Obviously, Isabel couldn't see him grinning, but it was probably pretty clear in his voice.

Sometimes you have to be mature. And sometimes, you have to be ten. "Jack and Sam sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G," Isabel sing-songed.

Jack's paddle accidentally slipped and flicked a splash of water towards the front of the canoe, just missing Isabel's hand. "It was more L-A-Y-I-N-G in a tree. Sam's a very impressive woman, Isabel. Has incredible balance."

"You're getting into the TMI zone there Jack," she laughed. "Don't tell me things like that about my friends."

"Pfft. There's nothing TMI about it. It was just nice to see her so happy."

"You seem to be very talented at making people happy Jack," Isabel smiled.

"Yeah, well," he said dismissively. "Happy people are a lot more fun to be around then sad people. And I like Sam."

"So do I. I hope you have fun tomorrow."

Jack directed a grin at her back. "I think that's a given."

Isabel shook her head and kept paddling. "Of course."
