Callisto pointed to the box. "Put your shoes in there and take a handout."

"Knowing how to make fire is one of the most important wilderness survival skills possible. Without it, you can't keep warm, cook, or use it to keep predators away from your camp."

"For today's exercise you'll will be split into two groups, one group will start a fire using a bow drill, and the other with flint and steel. You don't get to go home until you have a fire."

Callisto waited until the students had split into their groups, before speaking again.

"Another useful survival skill is the ability to create tools from scratch, even more important is the ability to figure out how to make the best use of the tools available." Callisto held up a pointed stick. "If you want your shoes back, I want a different use for a pointy stick from each of you at the end of class."

Would anyone notice if the cheerleader vanished in the wild, Callisto wondered. "Yes?"

"Do you have, like, controls to the -" She frowned. "-Danger room?"

Callisto ruthlessly quashed the line of thought that question brought up. "I might be able to get them."

Buffy brightened. "Could you, like, make a whetting stone appear? It's for a photography project. Wet and tree and joy, and wet could be whet. Like with swords and stuff."

Callisto's eye twitched. The cheerleader was giving her far too many openings. "No need," she said, digging around in her bag for a moment before tossing a stone at Buffy. "One whetstone."

Buffy caught it ~~before it hit her inna head~~, and looked at it. She beamed. "Awesome! You're the best! Thanks so much!" She was almost willing to forget the no-shoes thing.

Callisto made absolutely no note of Buffy's reflexes. At all. "Keep it, I have others."

"Thanks again," Buffy said, tossing the stone into the air and catching it again. She smiled. "See you next week!"

Callisto managed a grimace that could be mistaken for a smile. "Yeah, see you."
