Karate, Gym, May 31, Wednesday Morning

"There are many fighting styles that have obtained their names from the way they seem to mimic the actions of certain animals," Tommy says, once the class has assembled. "One of these is the Stickbug." He demonstrates a series of moves, which seem to involve a lot of posing and holding still for moments at a time.

"Today, I'd like you guys to practice the Stickbug technique," Tommy instructs the class. "Either by yourself or find a partner to spar against."

[ooc: i'll be around sporadically till about 5pm pacific. after that, i'll be moving across town, so not so much.]

"Oooh, low blow. I cannot argue with that one. However," he said, blocking the tenative kick and going in with Stickbug strike Zeta. "The group does not define the indiviual."

Peter blocked strike Zeta and responded with the another Stickbug-like punch. "Right you are, I don't much like beef."

"That's silly, beef is delicious," Pip said, blocking the Stickbug-like punch and attempting one of the Stickbug-throws.

Peter didn't resist the throw, landing on his back on the mats. He jumped back up and tried the same throw on Pip as he said, "I much prefer venison really. The taste is far superior."

Pip didn't resist the throw either, breaking his fall and springing back up. "There is something to be said for deer meat. Though, for me, you can't beat seafood."

"I take it you're from the coast of France then?" Peter asked, falling into the final Stickbug pose.

"Originally, yes. We moved around a lot, though," Pip said, mirroring his pose.

"I suppose you'd have to since I can't imagine battles come to find you," Peter said. "What do you think about the form?"

"Interesting. Definitely suits a taller, longer-limbed individual."

Peter grinned. "Lucky we both qualify then, hmm?"

Pip grinned back. "Yep. Ever tried Tae Kwon Do? I took it up because its moves suit people with our kind of build."

"I've never even heard of it before just now," Peter replied. "What's it like?"

"Korean art," Pip said. "Generally considered to have the widest range and most powerful examples of kicks available. Useful for people with long legs who can take advantage of that range."

"Now I want to learn," Peter said with an anticipatory grin. "You up to showing me some or is there someone else you'd rather I hit up about it."

"Weeeeell, you are British. But I suppose I could make an exception," Pip said.

Peter bowed. "We are allies, after all. In my time."

Pip nodded. "Our common hatred of Nazis will help bring us together."

Pip wondered if he should mention the Nazis that had come to Fandom not too long ago.

"Exactly. German bastards." Peter said with a curled lip. "I can't tell you how happy I was to find out the Yanks finally came into the war and helped beat them."

"They're a bit slow, true," Peter allowed. "But they tend to get the job done when they set their mind to it."

Pip nodded. "Ah well. All's well that ends well."

If it did end well.

"So, when do you want to meet so I can teach you to kick people really hard?"

"Tomorrow afternoon, maybe? Or Saturday? Sunday's right out as mun's brother is graduating" Peter asked. "When would work for you as you're the kicker?"

"Mmm, Saturday, I think. As I'm gonna be on a plane most of tomorrow. Any particular time work for you?"

"ooh, going anywhere fun?Saturday morningish?" Peter asked. "I'm supposed to start teaching Tyler swordwork after that."
