Karate, Gym, May 31, Wednesday Morning

"There are many fighting styles that have obtained their names from the way they seem to mimic the actions of certain animals," Tommy says, once the class has assembled. "One of these is the Stickbug." He demonstrates a series of moves, which seem to involve a lot of posing and holding still for moments at a time.

"Today, I'd like you guys to practice the Stickbug technique," Tommy instructs the class. "Either by yourself or find a partner to spar against."

[ooc: i'll be around sporadically till about 5pm pacific. after that, i'll be moving across town, so not so much.]

"Learning how the enemy moves?" Dean asked with a smirk.

"Possibly," she grinned. "Feeling better today?"

"Much, thanks. Feel like trying Stickbug moves on a Seahorse?" he invited.

"That sounds like it could be fun," Isabel grinned. She got into one of the stances and waited. "Let's see what you've got. Just keep in mind, I'm pretty much just learning."

"I'll take it easy on you," Dean promised, as he dropped into the stance himself.

Isabel stepped forward and punched using her right hand. "Thanks. I'm going out tonight, I'd rather not have a black eye."

Dean easily blocked the punch and threw one of his own back. "Oh? Who's the lucky guy?"

She stepped back and blocked, grateful for the time Aeryn had spent helping her. "Ironically enough? On of the Stickbugs, Greg."

"Kinda geeky looking with funny hair?" Dean asked, trying to place him. He stepped to the side and aimed a kick at Isabel's leg.

"It's cute hair," she said. "And he's nice. Which is all that matters." Distracted by the conversation, she only just managed to block the kick. To make up for it, she tried she threw a hook at his shoulder with her left hand.

Dean dodged out of the way, throwing a punch at her midsection as he did so. "Nice is good. You deserve someone nice."

The punch connected, since she still left herself too open. "Damn," Isabel muttered. "I still leave myself too open." She stepped back, shook her head and got in position. "I do. Just like Dawn does."

"I have that problem when fighting with a blade," Dean said. "I get so caught up in attacking, I'm always leaving myself wide open to be attacked." He maintained position, but let Isabel have the next move. "And Dawn's got someone nice," he said with a grin.

"That's not good," Isabel said as she stepped forward and faked a punch with her left hand that was followed by a kick to his right hip. "So I've heard."

Slightly confused by what Isabel was saying, Dean didn't quite block all of the kick and stumbled back a step. "I think I've lost what we're talking about -- it's not good that Dawn's got someone nice or that I have a crappy defence with a blade?" he asked, rubbing at his hip.

Isabel laughed as she waited for him to recover. "It's not good that you have crappy defense with a blade. Cause that way leads to pain and that's never good. I've heard that Dawn has someone nice." She got back into position and waited for Dean to attack. "Is that clear now?"

"Much. Thanks." Dean moved a little faster than he had been up to then, throwing a series of punches and kicks without pausing inbetwee.

Aeryn's training has paid off and she's able to block a good number of Dean's strikes. But enough get through to remind her that she is still new at this and really does need to practice more. After the last kick, she goes onto the offensive, stepping in with a punch and trying to force Dean into a more defensive mode.

Dean grinned as Isabel grazed him with the punch. "Not bad," he said, throwing back a punch of his own.

Which she managed to block with one hand while punching towards his stomach with her other. "I had a good teacher."

Dean blocked her punch and threw a kick towards the inner side of her back leg. "Yeah? Anyone I'd know?"

Which connected. Damnit! "Aeryn Sun, John's girlfriend." Isabel shook out her leg and got back in position. "She started teaching me after that vamp attack I told you about. I know I have my powers, but still, I don't know if they would have worked then. Not without getting other people hurt as well."

If Dean wanted to kick, she could do that. She sent a roundhouse to his left hip and then followed up with a back kick.

Dean brought down his hands to block the first kick and jumped back out of the way of the second, her foot grazing against him hard enough to make him hiss, but not to make him move.

"If Aeryn taught you, I think I'd like to see her spar," Dean commented.

"Aeryn is very, very, very good," Isabel said. "She's in the gym often enough. If you ask her, nicely. I'd bet she'd spar with you." She waited for Dean to move, trying to gauge what he was going to do next. "Just as a warning? She will kick your ass. And I'm not saying that to be obnoxious. She's just that good."

Dean grinned. "If she fights as good as she shoots, she'll probably kick my ass from here to Kansas and back." He threw a roundhouse kick, and followed it up with a right hook. "Still would be fun though."
