Norse Life, Tuesday, Period 2

Upon entering the Danger Shop today the students would find themselves in a pine forest in the middle of winter. Had Thor told them to dress accordingly? He was sure that he had! (Blake was...less sure.) At any rate, they should enjoy the chill before returning to the heat of summer.

Thor sipped his vanilla latte and told the students, "Today we shall be hunting boar! Hunting is good fun, a grand time out in nature with one's friends, plus a necessary task to put meat on the table, especially in winter when stores run low. And the boar is a noble adversary: strong, wily, dangerous...and delicious." He did so love a bit of roast boar. "I have divided you into two teams, and provided everything you will need to hunt the beast, spears and shields and such." He gestured toward the racks with said provisions. Don might have prevailed upon him to include a few fur-lined cloaks and hats, just in case. "The first group to dispatch the beast wins!" He sighed wistfully. "If only it were real and we could feast upon it after, but apparently that's 'too dangerous.'" The sight of Thor doing air quotes might stick with some of the students. "Ah, well. To arms!"

Team One is Steph Gingrich, Steve Rogers, Liliana Vess, and Henry of Skalitz, while Team Two is Charlie Gale, Illyana Rasputin, Belle, Stewart, and Vi.

Liliana was just going to glare a bit at Thor. She didn't enjoy being colder than she usually was, Thor.

And was immediately going to go help herself to one of those fur-lined cloaks and hats, thank you.

What? It was lovely and brisk out, Liliana. The cold air was refreshing!

(Since Liliana was a necromancer and all she might also take note of spirit!Don, looking rather incongruous in a t-shirt and cargo shorts and casting longing glances at Thor's latte.)

"Of everything, you're upset about the latte?" Liliana asked.

Don't mind her talking to thin air everybody.

There's no coffee here, Don told her.

"He may get his own later," Thor assured her and Don both.

"You'd rather be here, with the snow and the trudging? Just for coffee?"

Abuse a few more italics, Liliana.

I'm already cold, Don told her. Why not?

Thor? Eyeing Don speculatively, evaluating whether he might have not been spending enough time corporeal lately, if he had forgotten how well his bad leg and snow did not get along. Then again, it being June might be a factor...or maybe his caffeine addiction was just that strong. Maybe that one.

"Because it's not just cold, it's snow," Liliana pointed out. "Why can't you just get your own after class, darling? Thor certainly seemed amenable."

You know, since he'd mentioned it like thirty seconds ago.

It's not like it's real snow, Don pointed out. Even if it was a whole heck of a lot more real than he was at the moment. And I will, but that's not the point. Thor raised an eyebrow at him, wondering what the point was, and took a sip of his latte. Don pointed at him. He's taunting me with it.

"I am merely drinking my latte," Thor protested. If he was taunting anyone with it, surely it was all the people in the snow, and he wasn't even deliberately taunting them.

"Darling, usually I hate arguing with disembodied spirits," not strictly true "but I think you're reading a little too much into it. The man is drinking a latte. A latte that you can enjoy in less than an hour."

Look, Yana was never going to turn down a nice fur hat, even if she was 90% sure it was going to vanish when the class was over.

She stuffed her hair up inside it, pulling it securely on to her head. "Right," she said, picking up a spear and giving it a heft. "Anyone else hunted for their dinner before?"

You may mod your boar-hunting and wandering-about-in-the-woods experience, but the RNG dictates that Team One wins!

Liliana trudged maybe several hundred feet in the snow before snapping, "Enough of this," and began to levitate instead.

Sure, it was, y'know. Strategic. So she didn't leave tracks or spore or make noise. Definitely not because walking through snow was the absolute worst.

"Not a fan of the snow?" Steve teased.

"Ugh, absolutely not." Liliana scrunched up her nose. "Also, I hope you, Steph, and Henry are capable boar hunters because you do not want me taking it down."

On the other hand: zombie boar.

"I brought my own shield," Steve said with a grin, "and roasted boar is swell."

Even fake boar. ...now Steve and Thor would need to get a real boar.

"Roasted boar is delicious," Liliana agreed, smiling a little wistfully. "And an important part of our winter celebrations, when I was a girl."

"I think I remember you mentioning that at Yule," Steve said.

Liliana nodded. "Indeed," she said. "Thor's Yule celebration was very reminiscent in certain ways." She crooked a smile. "I'm surprised he didn't form a real boar hunt before it. I can think of several people who would enjoy it."

Not Liliana, though. She would remain back in the lodge, where the warmth and amenities were, thank you.

"Maybe this year," Steve said. "I think Thor was still learning the ropes."

"Ignis would be overjoyed to attend," Liliana said with a laugh. "Though you might have to hunt two, to prevent a battle over who gets to cook the thing."

"I'd ask if we could possibly eat two boars, but then I remember who attends," Steve said.

"I'm glad you suddenly remembered who your friends and neighbors are," Liliana said with a laugh. "That reminds me, darling. Keep your social calendar clear for next Friday. We're throwing a party, posters will go up next week, most likely."

Steve grinned. "We'll be there. And congratulations, by the way. Don't think I missed your new accessory."

Liliana smiled, and then tried to force herself to stop smiling and that made for a very odd expression.

"We aren't making a big deal of it," she said, her thumb stroking over the band. She sounded very casual. Of course. "We'll announce it formally at the party."

Shut up, she was a scary and dispassionate necromancer.

"We're very happy for you," Steve said with a grin and a wink.

"Yes, well..." Liliana searched for something appropriately dispassionate to say and came up blank. "Thank you," she said instead, softening.

And then cleared her throat and pointed. "Aren't those boar tracks, darling?"

Perhaps about such subjects as, "Why is this fun?" and, "Did you bring enough lattes for all of us?"

I just want to be cold.
