The Art of Breakfast, Thursday, Period 4

Yes, even Raiden had a couple of bags following him around today, although they were relatively small and he was mostly ignoring them. (One said DUMB and another said CURSED and, well, he was both of those things. What of it?) He had more important things to worry about.

When the students entered the home ec classroom, they would find their teacher on the phone. "I don't care about interior design, I just want to open as soon as--you care about interior design." Of course Castor cared about interior design. "Hey, listen, do you have a bunch of bags following you around today? No, no reason--look, I gotta go, class is starting. I'll call you back."

He hung up and smiled at his students. "Sorry about that! Just dealing with some business stuff. This week we're going to talk about breakfast meat! Because man cannot protein by eggs alone, or something like that. Of course, some people are vegetarians and we don't judge them for that, and they have to get their protein from...beans and stuff. But I don't think we have any vegetarians in this class?" he double checked, before going on with, "If you do I have some vegan breakfast sausage, but it's..." Look, it was up to you.

"Obviously you can eat any kind of meat for breakfast and no one's gonna stop you, but some are more common than others. The most common breakfast meat in the US is probably pork, in the form of sausage and bacon," Raiden told his students. "Turkey, say, is not common at breakfast except in the form of 'healthier' alternatives to pork sausage and pork bacon, and you only see chicken--well, again in sausages, chicken apple sausage is really good, but also in the South in the form of fried chicken breast served on a biscuit or a waffle. Beef makes a show in dishes like corned beef hash or steak and eggs, and for seafood, you can put smoked salmon on a bagel up in New York, or go back to the South for shrimp or fried catfish served with grits." The South was killing it in the food game once again.

He gestured to a table full of food behind him, featuring the various breakfast dishes he'd just named and a few more besides, all separated out by type of meat (or "meat" in the case of the vegetarian alternatives) and carefully labeled. "I need your help with a project of mine. I want y'all to try this stuff, and tell me what you think. What's your favorite? What are you not into? What's missing?" Yes, he was using you for menu market research, but he was also feeding you.

Boc didn't know why there were a few bags following him around; they had words on them (MONSTER, USELESS, GOOD-FOR-NOTHING, WEAKLING, etc etc), but he couldn't read so he didn't pay them much mind, so long as they didn't bother him. He might ask someone what they said at one point, but for now, he was focused on being wary about breakfast instead.

Because while he wasn't really technically a vegetarian, he did try to avoid eating meat, always worried that it might awaken in his a certain bloodlust and violence that went along with being a demi-human. So he was hemming and having about it a little, nervously and anxious as his hands rubbed together and considered the weight of the risk of trying even just a little bite.

"No, no!" Boc said quickly, letting go of his hands so that he could wave them somewhat frantically in front of him as if to dispell any such notion from the air entirely. "No, erm....no problem! No problem at all! It's just..."

He hesitated a moment, deciding whether to keep insisting, to be honest, or to make something up, while his INSECURITY and FEAR OF BEING A PROBLEM bags got a little bigger.

"Erm....I...erm, well, I think...I don't....that is, if it's quite alright, I like to avoid eating meat, if I can. It can...might...could potentially lead to, well, erm...I don't think it's good for me. Generally speaking."

"Oh, erm, well, yes," Boc's hands were nervously close to his chest again. "I did hear you mention those, but I...I worry. That even if they're not meat, they might still be close to meat...similar enough, but I...well, I suppose it's probably safer trying those, isn't it? Than the proper meat?"

As he stumbled through that, the DEMI-HUMAN TENDANCIES started nudging up against him, and he dismally tried to bat it away from him.

Stark had so many bags and less appetite than usual. Perhaps these were related. Perhaps.

"I like bacon and sausage," Stark said, looking down at a bag with Not Enough on it. "For breakfast. I've never tried the chicken? Or shrimp. Not for breakfast."

'Chicken and' wasn't Gray's favorite way to eat waffles, but he also wasn't about to say no to it.

Please pay no mind to the pile of bags behind him labeled stuff like DAD and FAILURE and EVIL?, even if the question mark was...interesting. Raiden was very pointedly and respectfully not looking in that direction.

Arden was going to skimp on the everything with the chicken, but was still going to preen over the South being justly represented as the reigning ruler of food.

"Breakfast burritos?" she suggested.
