It was the summer, so naturally that meant heading to the campsite away from town that had been entirely claimed as a paintball course by now to meet your very excited teachers. One was being decidedly more cool about it than the other. (It was the sunglasses that made the other one look so cool.)

"Welcome to paintball!" Steve, the less cool one, said excitedly. "For those who are new to this sport, we take these guns--" he held it up, "and shoot them safely at each other until there is only one remaining. That person has bragging right for the week and is generally the target in the next class."

"My name is Tony Stark and this here is Steve Rogers in case you're new," Tony added. "Don't worry, we'll be getting right into playing without much more preamble. For this first go at it, feel free to use any powers or skills you might have. Gives us a level we should be designing the courses for."

They'd stop before river of lava, Anakin.

"Make sure to put on the coveralls we've provided," Steve said. "And the eye protection."

"And remember to have fun!" You competitive weirdos.

"Tony and I will be joining in," Steve added because unlike cooking, they were actually pretty talented at paintball.

Quinn didn't have any powers. Unless you counted "you knock her down and she gets the fuck back up again".

She darted from the main gathering area the moment that the game got started, ducking into the cover of the edges of the campground, and tried to remember that her gun wasn't real and this wasn't a cornfield.

It was the cape, wasn't it? It provided too much of a target, and now he had to get paint out of it.

Steve, showing the kind of tactical prowess he was famous for, immediately launched himself at Thor.

He was saving everyone else, okay?

Dammit, Steve! You were getting in the way of his planned assault on Tony! (Who had apparently disappeared, stupid camouflage armor.)

This was NOT going the way he'd planned but Thor was not above paintballing Captain America, okay? Even if he did get taken out himself in the process. "Have at thee!"

God, Steve loved Thor. He got the paintball gun in position just a hair faster and aimed at center mass (but not the cape, that looked like a pain to dry clean).

Thor managed to fire off a shot at Steve as he fell. Dramatically. "Nooooooo! Valhalla, I am coming...."

It was a very dramatic death for green paint, it must be said.

Steve deeply admired the commitment, though, even as he looked down at his red spattered chest with a frustrated sigh. "That was quick."

Tony was testing out his camouflage armor for this one. And it worked really well up until the end there.

"Okay, so a few tweaks still necessary."

Sabine was planning to take all of this too seriously. Maybe she was bored and a little starved for this sort of thing.

If you needed (to fire on) her, she'd be skulking.

Had he brought his own camo paint for his face? Yes, yes he had.

The traditions must be maintained, so there was the dean in another paintball class, preparing to dole out...pre-emptive retribution. Yes, he was going with that.

Well, actually Stark wanted much more than that but it was all he wanted at that exact moment. And he had a lot of pent up emotions he could maybe work through with paintball...

Strategy? Nah. Just a bombardment.

But Stark was determined and had a lot of things to work through right now. He could keep shooting until he ran out of ammo or until someone else hit Anakin first.

As much as Summer did tend toward stealth and strategy, this was the first paintball class of the season, so she was all about charging forward with guns a-blazing.

A-painting?

Whatever. She was just going to get out there and shoot.

Who was using powers? Not this girl! She didn't even have any!

Though occasionally a very helpful gust of wind would knock a paintball just off-course enough to miss her. But hey! That wasn't her, that was clearly nature.

She was clearly just that flexible! And amazing! And the prettiest target on the field, in Cal's opinion!

"Are you having fun?" he called to her from where he was ducked down. "This might be the highlight of every summer."

"Better believe it," Arden said with a laugh as she flung herself into a forward roll. "Dinner stakes again?"

"Absolutely. Especially since I get to admit now that I look forward to our dates." Cal grinned and took a shot at her, mostly as a warning. "I've already been making a list of places."

She dodged and returned fire, but none of them hit. Stupid Jedi tricks. Unfair. "Where did you want to bring me first?" she asked, ducking behind a tree.

They were, because they really were made for each other!

"I'm still debating between you taking me somewhere fancy and getting as many tacos as we can stuff into our faces," he said. He took a chance and ran out to get closer, ducking behind another cover. "Really, the pleasure of your company is the most important part, along with the bragging rights."

"I bet you're really looking forward to bragging to people about how your girlfriend kicked so much ass in Paintball," Arden called. "Including your own!"

Okay, well, maybe not today. But third was pretty respectable!

Also, way to leave yourself open to getting shot, Arden.

"I'll definitely brag about it once it happens!" he called back, aiming at her and firing. Did he use the Force to help his aim? Maybe, but it was still fair.

"You mean like tod--" Arden stared down at her torso, a painball spatter directly center mass. "...Okay, nice shot," she told him, grinning, before falling down and expiring in the most dramatic way possible.

Lana was competitive, but so long as she did better than Anakin, she was happy.

(And she'd be very proud of Arden and Cal when this was all over!)
