The Wonderful World of Art [Tuesday, 3rd Period]

The class had received instructions to meet in the art room, which would indicate that whatever Aphra and Isabela had planned, they were planning on easing the class into it.

In the art room itself, there were all kinds of various arts supplies laid out, mostly the kinds of things you'd use for painting or sketching, but also the odd, more esoteric media as well.

"Art," Aphra declared. "It's great."

"And valuable," Isabela added, then quickly followed up with "For self-expression."

"Which is why, instead of introducing yourselves to us with your words, we want you to do it with your art." Yes, Aphra thought she sounded deep.

"Pick whichever medium speaks to you and create something that tells the class about how you are." In Isabela's not at all humble opinion, they sounded so deep.

Also how else were they supposed to get an idea of what they were working with. They needed to know if any of you had valuable skills.

Luma wasn't really an artist. Oh, sure, she'd learned a few things about drawing here and there, but the most painting she tended to do was for her nail polish and make up. But she had poured over countless art books, there had been painting all around the old house, she'd even had her own portrait done before...

So she took her time meandering over the possibility in all the supplies before a set of oil pastels seemed to call to her the most, and she settled in to get to work.

Lydia selected a sketchbook and some charcoal and got to work on a self-portrait.

Belle set to work sketching out what looked like a book cover with what might eventually be a face on it.

The picture Luma presented was a bit rudimentary and simple, perhaps not unlike what a child might draw. The basics and the fundamentals seems there, but it lacked in talent or perhaps just practice. The oil pastels she used made the colors bright and the lines dramatic, and it depicted a young woman with flowing blonde hair and an equally flowing pink dress, standing beside a large grey wolf, back arched and bearing red smeared teeth.

"This is me," she explained, pointing to the woman, "and this is me in my wolf form."

Simple. Straightforward. Clearly understanding the assignment on the most surface level.

Lydia presented her finished self-portrait, done in the style typical to the Regency and with admittedly moderate skill. It looked mostly like her, it must be said. "I did my best," she said, "but I haven't much training, and Kitty was always the artist of the family."
