Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Good weather had fallen over Fandom this morning, so the picnic conditions were looking fantastic. The bonfire was there for good measure, along with the makings of s'mores, because it was almost truly summer, right?

There was plenty of food, and there were tables and chairs set up all across the lawn with varying degrees of glitter stuck to them. Everything was ready for another welcome picnic!

Incredibly rude to familiar faces, wow.

"Jack," Liliana said with a smile. "Hello, darling. Are we running off today to grift and card shark our way through...what was it? Nar Shadaa?"

IT WOULD BE SO FUN, JACK, C'MON.

Jack looked up, though he didn't need to; Liliana's presence kind of carried, like someone screaming in an opera house would. "Sadly, I have a different kind of gig," he said. "But hey, at least I know the concept of Nar Shaddaa made an impression."

Liliana would be preening if she could hear his internal monologue. Instead, she was pouting at his answer, though the expression was pure artifice. Jack needed to see how terribly wounded his answer left her.

"Of course, darling. I rarely forget things that sound fun."

"Well, maybe later this semester," Jack said, picking up his drink and giving it the tiniest little tip in her direction in greeting. "If you're in Lana's class, anyway. I think she might want to head out there."

"I would have to check," she said. "I think I signed up for a class or two. But even if I didn't, I don't see why that should stop me from accompanying the class if it does."

Rules? Apply to Liliana Vess? Unlikely.

Jack shrugged. "I'll be there, one way or another," he said. He took a sip of his drink. "So how've you been? Fleece anybody I hate recently?"

"I'd need to know who you hated to properly answer that question," Liliana said. "Though unlikely. I've been off having..." she grimaced "...adventures on another plane. Decidedly less fleecing involved than I would prefer. And yourself?"

"I mean, you could've given me a few names and I could've told you if I hated them or not," Jack said, cheerfully. "You have better odds than Russian roulette. I hate a lot of people."

He sipped his drink.

"I'm fine," he said. "Just finished a new record, and I'm doing a great job of not being weird about it. Adventures?"

"A new...record?" Liliana asked, brows drawing together. "A record of what? Or for what?"

Was Jack some kind of historian...?

"Of music," Jack said.

Oh, hey, he suddenly sounded very amused.

Look, it wasn't her fault Jack was out here using archaic terminology.

"And you're worried about being weird about it because...?" Because no, his first answer hadn't actually helped.

"I'm... putting my own music into the world and people are actually listening to it?" Jack offered. "I mean, I realize you've never worried about what anyone thought about anything a day in your life, but some of us normies worry about that kind of thing."

"Well, darling, there's your first mistake," Liliana said with a laugh. "Giving a damn about what other people think. If you wouldn't trust them to help you pick out shoes, why in Gaea's name would you care about their opinions on anything important?"

"Hubris and really bad luck with the brain chemistry lottery," Jack said casually. "... Anyway, I'm in a rock band. Hence the record. Don't clap."

"Wasn't planning on it," Liliana said. "Though I would listen to this record of yours if you sent it along. Unless you'd rather I didn't, so you don't have to fear my opinion."

"You know, I think I can handle yours," Jack said, pulling out his phone as he shot her a wry look. "At least I know that if you cut me down, I'll just be one of many."

"Aww, darling, you say the sweetest things," Liliana said, giving him a merry smile while she pulled her phone out as well.

"Not usually, you just have a really weird idea of what a compliment is," Jack said easily. "Number?"
