Ainsley piled her tray high with a little of everything (except clam chowder--ew).

She sets it down and digs in.

Nadia's on a roll with this meeting new students thing, so she waves to Pippi and goes over to Ainsley. "Hi, mind if I join you?"

People liking smart girls? People actually asking to eat lunch with her? This school was turning out to be sooo much better than Milford High, vampires or not.

Walter came in and loaded his tray. Pippi was sitting alone and his girlfriend was sitting with a girl he didn't know... All things considered, choosing Pippi over Nadia was likely a Bad Idea.

"Hi, I'm Walter," he said, taking a seat next to Nadia.

"Hey," Ainsley smiled at Walter. "I'm Ainsley."

"Pleasure to meet you, Ainsley." Walter let Nadia do the questioning for the moment to avoid redundancy.

Nadia bumped an arm against Walter and smiled.

Walter smiled back and started eating, since the crazy hooker his teacher had requested that they eat before the workshop.

Nadia sat down, smiling. "I'm Nadia. You're one of the new students?"

"Mmhmm," Ainsley answered around a mouthful of macaroni. She swallowed and held out her hand. "I'm Ainsley Hayes."

Nadia shook her hand. "Nice to meet you. So where are you from?"

"Raleigh, North Carolina." Ainsley was feeling well fed and not very nervous, so she actually let the statement finish there without the usual rambling.

"Where are you all from?"

"Buenos Aires, Argentina." Nadia answered, then continued for Walter. "He's from London." She left off the date, not sure how Ainsley might react to such information.

"Wow." Ainsley's eye were big."There sure are a lot of international students at this school."

Ainsley took a few bites of Jello--orange, her favorite!--before asking another question. She decided to see if Sam had been a.) pulling her leg b.) delusional or c.) on drugs in workshop on Monday.

"Um, is it true that there are vampires here? And other wierd things?"

Nadia's eyes flicked to Walter for just a second before she answered. "Yes. It is."

Walter had happened to glance up from his food to Nadia on that, so he could not fail to miss her look.

He stabbed a macaroni noodle a bit forcefully and kept his focus back on his plate.

Ainsley moved to pat Walter on the back.

"Walter, are you okay?"

Walter shook his head, then nodded. "I'm alright. Just believe us, yes there are weird things here."

"O-okay. Is there anything I should look out for in particular?"

"Generally, if your first reaction to anything is 'I don't believe that,' believe it. Or at least give it the benefit of the doubt."

Walter poked at his macaroni for a moment before smiling. "Stop by squirrel cabin and you can meet Nadia's blue cat, Pippi's monkey who taught the monkey lecture in Creature Languages class, and my six-eyed hellpuppy."

"All right." Abruptly, Ainsley rememberd a disaster from the last time she tried sleep-away camp when she was twelve.

"But I draw the line at going on a snipe hunt."

Walter tried not to wince.

"I think you'll have more trouble with gremlins. Although I haven't seen one, but I know people who have had trouble with them."
