Callisto waited until the class finished marching into the clearing they'd been given ~~*handwavey*~~ directions to.

"First things first," she held up a large box. "At the start of each class you will take off your shoes and put them in this box. You will get them back at the end of class, if I believe that you have paid sufficient attention in class. Otherwise I get to keep them for the week. After you've done that I want you to introduce yourself to the class and say why you decided to take this workshop."

"Since this is the first class, I'd thought I'd start with something fairly simple. Fandom is filled with many unique and interesting animals, from the ducks and giant squid, to the dancing lemers and weetiny bunnies, to the minature giraffes and shy, retiring teal deer, to John Crichton. Some of these are harmless, others dangerous, still more tasty. Which is why, when lost in the wilderness, it's important to know what animals might be in your near vicinity. One of the best ways to do this is through tracking, the basics of which I will be teaching you today."

Callisto went on to give a very interesting and informative talk on tracking. It might even have drawn the attention of a few teal deer.

"Your assignment today is to split into pairs and identify which Fandom animal made the set of tracks I've assigned you.

"Good luck. You're going to need it."

"Some kind of hoofed animal that lives in a forest," said Janet, frowning at the tracks. "Deer, maybe?"

It might be that she'd been forced to watch Bambi one too many times as a child, and that was the only animal she could think of that had hoofs and lived in a forest.

"That could be it," Alphonse replied, inspecting the tracks. "Or maybe a boar? They typically live in forests."

"Mmm, bacon," murmured Janet. "Do we have boar on Fandom, though? Then again, I'd bet we probably have everything here."

"Well we've got the environment for them, and considering everything else that tends to pop up around here..." Alphonse put a hand to his chin. "But deer are more common, too."

"Way more common. Do deer and boar both have cloven hooves?" asked Janet. ~~Mmmm, traif.~~ "Let's all hear it for process of elimination."

"If I remember right, I think they both do," he answered. "And so do sheep, but I doubt they'd live in a forest environment if they were wild."

"Wild sheep? I don't think I'm going to buy any wool sweaters for winter if we have those," said Janet. "We know we have deer, we maybe have boar, and we probably don't have sheep. Anything else you think it could be?"

"Too big for cows, and it's pretty obvious this isn't a horse hoof," Alphonse paused and tried to think of any other animals. "Goats?"

"I'd think they'd go for a more plains-like area," said Janet, studying the tracks. "I think deer is our most likely suspect. I wonder if there's any way to tell if it's a regular deer, or one of the teal deer?"

"Teel dear? I've never heard of those before."

"Really?" asked Janet. "They're pretty rare, but you can find them on Fandom. Angela and Rory organized an entire Sunday brunch benefit to save the teal deer, actually."

"Ooh, I didn't know that," Alphonse said, a little interested. "If they're rare, you think these could be teal deer tracks then?"

"Maybe?" asked Janet. "I don't know if anyone's ever been able to study the track of a teal deer as compared to an ordinary one. We could guess and say that since this is Fandom, and the unusual is ordinary, it's a teal deer track?"

Alphonse nodded. "And since I've never even heard of them before, I'll take your word on it. Teal deer track it is."

"Do you want to tell Callisto, or should I?" asked Janet. "Or is she listening in?"

"Um, you may, if you want," he offered. "You know more about teal deers than I do."

"Barely anything more. But okay," said Janet. ~~Yay, handwavey, because that's how we're doing that. :)~~
