Callisto waited until the class finished marching into the clearing they'd been given ~~*handwavey*~~ directions to.

"First things first," she held up a large box. "At the start of each class you will take off your shoes and put them in this box. You will get them back at the end of class, if I believe that you have paid sufficient attention in class. Otherwise I get to keep them for the week. After you've done that I want you to introduce yourself to the class and say why you decided to take this workshop."

"Since this is the first class, I'd thought I'd start with something fairly simple. Fandom is filled with many unique and interesting animals, from the ducks and giant squid, to the dancing lemers and weetiny bunnies, to the minature giraffes and shy, retiring teal deer, to John Crichton. Some of these are harmless, others dangerous, still more tasty. Which is why, when lost in the wilderness, it's important to know what animals might be in your near vicinity. One of the best ways to do this is through tracking, the basics of which I will be teaching you today."

Callisto went on to give a very interesting and informative talk on tracking. It might even have drawn the attention of a few teal deer.

"Your assignment today is to split into pairs and identify which Fandom animal made the set of tracks I've assigned you.

"Good luck. You're going to need it."

"John Crichton tracks," Alec said definitively, staring at the ground.

Hamlet looks at the tracks skeptically. "Are you certain about that? If they did belong to John Crichton, would they not be followed by a second pair of female tracks, keeping him whipped into shape from behind?"

Alec shot a grin at Hamlet. "You've got a point. So what is it, if it's not a Crichton?"

"Something with small, round feet? They don't appear to be very large. Whatever it is, it surely must be a miniature version of the animal."

Alec frowned, trying to figure it out. "A miniature-- couldn't it just be a small animal?"

"I suppose that it well could be. A small but determined animal."

"I'm pretty sure this is nothing I've ever seen in North America." Alec shook his head. "But this is Fandom, so I guess anything's free game?"

"Snow monsters? Penguins? Left over zombies? Those small mites which cause emo and the related soulpain?"

"None of the above would probably leave prints like that," Alec said, pointing at the tracks. "Something four-footed, with hooves. Smallish. Maybe miniature."

Hamlet searches his mind, until his thoughts wander back to the class he had with Professor Ted, and what kind of pet the prof owned.

"Giraffes?"

"Giraffes!" Alec says, like a sudden revelation. "...Except, wait, a miniature giraffe? Do those even exist?"

"Ah, yes, they do! Professor Logan keeps a miniature giraffe. His name is Earl."

"So that's what we're looking at." Alec grins and claps Hamlet on the shoulder. "Looks like we pass the first day."
