Starting a Small Business

Okay class - here goes.

Last week I told you to pick a partner and decide on a business. We've had a few more students join the class.

This week, we're going to introduce ourselves and you're going to tell me what kind of business you and your partner are going to create for class.

By the way - this class is strictly pass/fail. If you show up and do the work, you pass. If you miss classes or don't do the work, you fail. And tje decision is going to be made based on your team - not on you as an individual. So if you picked a slacker partner, you better be prepared to pick up the slack.

For those of you who don't know me - I'm Lorelai Gilmore-Danes. I own the Dragonfly Inn in Stars Hollow, CT with my best friend Sookie. We may take a field trip to the inn as part of this class, assuming I can get permission from principalconnor to take you off school grounds.

I started working at an inn as a maid when I was 17. I worked my way up the ladder, met Sookie (who's a chef) and we decided to buy our own inn. We've only been open for about six months, but things are going really well so far, which is amazing considering the whole Kirk-running-naked-through-the-inn at the Grand Opening and Sookie's clumsiness almost setting fire to the kitchen twice.

Anyway... please, introduce yourselves and tell me what kind of business you plan to create.


[OOC: 1. All Lorelai's classes are slow played because the mun is too busy for more (and is playing two other characters).
2. For those of you who aren't familiar with Gilmore Girls, Lor is a bit of a flake at times and tends to go off on tangents. She's also a pop culture guru.
3. Having Veronica & Lilly in this class is going to be OH SO AMUSING since they haven't run across each other as of yet.]

Hey Mrs. G-D, what's up? I don't know if you remember me, I'm Lilly Kane. I haven't talked to Anya, my partner, yet - so I don't know what our business plan is, but some sort of little shop, I think. Cozy, quaint, smells good... that kind of thing.

"Girl, get your ass over here and sit next to me. We need to catch up, I've barely seen you all day."

Allie slides into the seat next to Lilly.

"I've been so busy trying to get organized here. This place is so different from my last school.

When is the Homecoming meeting?"

"Yeah, I know what you mean. Homecoming meeting is right after class. Everything is ready though, I'm having Logan's staff take care of it.

Also, way to blush when you said Dr. House's name. You are too cute."

Allie is embarassed that Lilly noticed her blush.

"Living with Logan was definitely a good decision. He seems like a really nice guy."

"Yeah, at first I thought he might be a prick, which I was okay with because it is still a great house, but he actually seems to be a decent guy."

Lilly puts her notebook slightly in front of her mouth to keep Mrs. Gilmore-Dames from overhearing her conversation.

"Plus, eye candy right at home."

Allie looks up.

"Um, Lilly," she says. "There's a girl over there staring at you like she's just seen a ghost."

Lilly gives Allie a raised eyebrow, turns her head and sees...

Some of the color fades from her cheeks, and she whispers to Allie without turning her gaze. "That's because she has."

Allie watches, confused, as Lilly gets up and walks over to the blonde girl in the doorway.

I don't know if it should smell good. Then the customers might stand around smelling and not buying anything. Unless-- oh, it could smell like Spakeum powder.

Hi Ms. Gilmore_Danes... I'm Allison Cameron. You can call me Allie.

I want to be a doctor. I'm applying to medical schools now and I'm working part time in the clinic here with Dr. House. (she blushes slightly).

I'm going to be working with lisacuddy but we haven't had a chance to decide what kind of business we're going to do, but I'm guessing something medical since we met working at the clinic.

Murmurs to Allie as she sits down, "I think I owe my soul to House after today. I hate medicine, I hate the clinic, and I am running away to join the circus. So, what do you want to do for our project?"

Allie shrugs.

"I figured we could do something medical. Maybe a pharmaceutical company?"

"Oh god," Lisa exclaims under her breath. "Mrs. Gilmore-Danes? I need to use the ladies' room, I'll be right back."

Lisa practically bolts out of the room, leaving her books still sitting at her desk.

Ms. G-D? Oh, Ms. G-D? I'm really not feeling well, so I'm going to go to the clinic, o.k.? veronicamars1 can fill you in on the business idea we had, but right now I....

*chokes, holds stomach, scurries off*

Hi! I'm Piper Halliwell. Someday, I want to be a famous chef at my own restaurant.

Anyway, the4thsister and I decided to create a catering business. We already have a name for it and everything.

By the way, she won't be able to make it to class tonight. She isn't feeling well.

Veronica walks in and scans the room for her partner.

Her gaze falls on a familiar face and she feels dizzy.

"Lilly..." she whispers in obvious shock.

Lilly stands up from her seat, and takes a step toward the door and Veronica before stopping herself.

Her voice is faint, and almost broken, but she clears her throat.

"Hey."

Veronica shakes her head rapidly, certain she is seeing things and wondering if there was something in the meatloaf she ate for dinner.

"I thought... oh man... I thought you left me for good..." she says.

She looks at the other students and realizes they're all staring because she's talking to herself.

Lilly stands still, her hands trembling just slightly. "No, no, I could never... Oh my God, Veronica."

Lilly keeps mumbling, her usually cool exterior visibly shaken. "I've missed you, I mean, I've seen you, but I had to leave... I didn't want to leave. That's the thing about death, they don't give you much room to wiggle out of it."

Veronica is shaking slightly.

"But Lilly, I figured it out. I solved your murder and the killer is behind bars. I thought it set your spirit free. I'm so confused."

A few stray tears slide down her cheeks.

"No, you did. You did so well. I still can't believe you did that for me. That's why I'm here; I was with you the whole time last year, but I had to let you go. That's how it works, I didn't have a choice."

Lilly begins to cry as well, silently while trying to put a smile on her face.

"I'm not making any sense, am I? I never thought I'd see you again, not until...

Oh my God, no."

Lilly looks horrified.

"You didn't die, did you?"

Veronica's eyes widen at Lilly's question.

"No, no, I'm not dead."

She looks around frantically for a familiar face and doesn't see anyone.

Relieved, she sighs. "That's good."

Lilly notices Veronica looking around, and begins to appear nervous, taking a step back.

"I'm freaking you out, aren't I? Of course I am, I would have totally freaked out when I was alive if Mr. Buggles suddenly reappeared. Maybe I should go..."

Allie, having noticed the obvious discomfort of her roommate and the blonde girl, decides to walk over and see if everything is okay.

"Lilly?" she says. "Sorry to interrupt, but is everything okay?"

Veronica is startled when the brunette she saw Lilly sitting near when she walked in comes over and actually addresses Lilly.

Her face goes totally white.

"Wait, you can see her?"

Allie wonders if the blonde girl has some sort of mental disorder.

"Of course I can see her."

She reaches out and touches Lilly's shoulder.

"What's going on, Lilly?"

"Allie, this is my best friend Veronica. I haven't seen her in a little while, because...

She shores up strength and puts out a false sense of bravado, but the cracks in it are obvious.

"I got myself killed screwing my boyfriend's dad. So I had to leave town, and I ended up here. There's more to it than that, but that's the basic story..."

Lilly turns to Veronica, and her lip quivers slightly.

Allie is shocked by Lilly's revelations.

She watches Lilly's friend run from the room.

"You're... you're..." she grasps for the right words... "you're a ghost?"

"Not like, Casper the Friendly. I just thought that everyone at this school was... oh God, you're normal too, aren't you? I just assumed that you had magical powers, or that you were from outer space, or something like that. But you're not. I'm sorry, Allie. I'm so sorry, I would have told you."

Allie is in deep shock. She's never run across ghosts or other supernatural beings. Then again, why would they hang out in New Jersey?

She takes a deep breath and regards the first friend she's made at her new school.

"Its okay, Lilly. It... well... surprised me... but I guess after some of the things I've heard about going on here, you being dead is the least of my concerns."

She offers a tentative smile.

"Thanks Al, you're the best, seriously. Do you want to go home now? I'm kind of burnt. I could use a cocktail and a hot bath."

Allie glances at the teacher, who is engrossed in some entertainment magazine.

"Sure," she says with a shrug. "My partner abandoned me anyway."

"Yeah, what was that girl's problem?"

Lilly grabs Allie's hand, and squeezes it lightly.

"Thanks for being here, Allie. Now, let's blow this popsicle stand."

She guides Allie to the door, a soft smile on her face, her cheeks still streaked with a few tears.

Anya gets an annoyed look on her face. "Did I just turn invisible?" she asks herself out loud.

mutters to herself, "Pfft, dead people. Think the world revolves around them or something just because they've faced their own mortality."

Lilly spins and touches Allie's upper arm lightly, keeping one eye on Veronica. "Everything's fine. I'm sorry, I'm stressing every one out today, huh?"

Veronica gulps.

"How can you... touch? How can she see you? Lilly, what the hell is going on?"

"I don't really know how to explain. I don't want to scare you. I didn't know you'd be here, how the hell are you here anyway? This school is filled with pirates and robots and gremlins and... dead kids. You're normal, why did you leave Neptune? Why did you leave your Dad... and Wallace... Logan?"

Veronica's eyes go wide. She is so shocked she can't even speak.

Lilly is here and she knows about Wallace, whom she never met... and the way she said 'Logan' was like...

Veronica can't breathe. Her best friend is here and apparently knows that Veronica went out with her boyfriend.

Unable to stand the pressure, Veronica turns and runs from the room. She's suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to talk to Logan.

Lilly shouts after her, but doesn't follow her- she needs her space. "Veronica, I'm sorry! I can explain!" But she is gone.

Lilly falls into a chair by the door, and turns back to Allie.

Ma`am, I`m so sorry we are late. I had some health issues, involving fever and high temperature, so we kinda couldn`t come before. So, hopefully, we will be forgiven. Since taylorjustin stayed back in the room to keep me alive, really. *sighs* Just to get things going, two of us made a plan of making an advertising company. It won`t be on the large scale exactly, but on the smaller scale, I think we will be able to do what we want with it. *smiles slowly, his eyes still pretty bloodshot from the fever*
