Let's Play Some Sports!; Thursday, First Period [01/23].

The students would have been advised to dress warmly again, because what better time to look into all sorts of winter sports than in the middle of winter, anyway? And there would be another trip through portalocity again, too, because why stick with the danger shop when there were lots of places out there in the world to learn about this sort of stuff and your instructor believed firmly in the educational value of actual bumps and bruises?

So welcome to the LeFrak Center in Brooklyn, everyone! And if you didn't pick up on what you were learning about today, well, don't worry, Gladio was going to get right into it, with his usual grin and eagerness to get started.

"Hey, guys," he said. "Today, we're learning ice skating, so let's take a moment to get everyone set up with some skates, and then, again, I'm having someone better trained than I am to teach you all the details. If you're new to skating, we've got someone to go over the basics, and if you kind of already know your thing, I got someone to teach you some more intermediate stuff, and if you're already past that? Well, good time to help out your classmates, then, right?"

He flashed them another grin and then nodded.

"Alright, let's get started, and when the lessons are done, we can just enjoy a little free skating here in this great park while we're here. And just keep in mind: this is actually going to be pretty helpful for what we'll be doing next week."

He was pretty sure it didn't take a big leap in logic to predict how, but guess they'll all find out next week!

Whether you're a total beginner or a little more well versed in the way of the ice skates, get some skates, get stretching, and learn all about how to do it without falling on your butt too much!

Whether you prefer the open air section of the rink or the section underneath the cool pavilion meant to look like a celestial night sky, there's plenty of space to get your skate on and have fun! There's also a cafe you could probably sneak into if you're really not all about that skating life, but Gladio will definitely be judging you and shaking his head in disapproval.

Having already tried this once before, Nell was a little more steady on her feet, but definitely looking forward to a treat of hot chocolate at the end of class!

Ice skates are definitely not a natural state of being for Gladio, but he can do alright on them without getting too wobbly.

Nell made her way back to Gladio after class and handed him an extra large hot chocolate. It matched her own extra large hot chocolate with extra whipped cream. "Here you go," she said with a smile. "Not exactly an apple for the teacher, but better suited for the weather."

Gladio was more than happy to make that extra large cup look significantly less so once it was in his hand, taking it from Nell with a grin. "Thanks," he said, "but I hope you know, bribes don't work on me."

This was very untrue.

"You're still gonna have to work for your grade."

This was mostly true, meanwhile, but Gladio had no doubt that Nell still would regardless, which was part of why he loved her so damn much.

Nell reached out to take the hot chocolate back. "Well, in that case," she teased.

She shook her head at him. "And besides I would never. If I wanted to I wouldn't have waited till after class for sure!"

Well, let's just see how well Nell could reach that drink to take back when Gladio pulled it back and up over his head a little.

No take-backsies, Ingram. Or if you wanted it back, you better get jumping or climbing.

"I know you wouldn't," he said, fondness in his grin and he may have held the cup out of reach, but he was still leaning in for a kiss. "Too stubborn to half-ass it."

Nell just grinned and wrinkled her nose at him. She hadn't really planned to take back the hot chocolate and any climbing would be saved for in private.

"I am stubborn," she agreed after kissing him back.

"And short," Gladio added, as he made a point of taking a sip from his drink while it was still held aloft and out of reach. "But also sweet. And sassy. And....a bunch of other complimentary words that begin with S."

He may be well-read, but a poet he was not.

(Unless they were talking about Cup Noodle^TM).

Nell laughed. "Short, sweet, sassy, and stubborn. I suppose that works well enough to describe me."

She was no poet either - not even for Cup Noodle - so she didn't attempt to pick G words for Gladio.

"I'm glad we got to try skating earlier so I had some idea of what I was doing today," she said. "Made it more fun."

Giant. Gorgeous. God-like. It wasn't that hard! Maybe Gladio was also a poet when referring to himself, too.

"Here's to hoping you feel the same way when we get to what I got planned for next week," he said with a laugh, "but, yeah, me, too. Made this lesson a pretty easy one to come up with, too. Definitely a good way to spend a class."

"And with hot chocolate to finish," she said, holding up her cup. "Now if only we had a roaring fire or, oh, I don't know, maybe a hot tub to soak in to finish off the day?"

"Hmmmm," Gladio hummed, deep and thoughtful, as his eyes squinted and he rubbed his chin. "Not a bad idea. Too bad there's no where I can think of that might have one of those..."

"So sad," Nell said. "So ... anyway... did you have any plans for the rest of the day? Because, maybe we could skate some more, then get something to eat, and then see if we could maybe find a fire or hot tub?"

"I think," said Gladio, dropping the act for another grin, "that sounds like a great plan for the rest of the day. We can walk around the city a little, too..."

Sure, Gladio loved the great outdoors and was comfortable even in the wildest wilderness, but he was, at his core, truly a born and bred city boy.

"Lots of good food options here in Brooklyn, too, I bet. You in the mood for anything in particular?"

Nell was absolutely not a city girl, but she felt comfortable with Gladio and trusted that he wouldn't lead her wrong.

"You probably know more about different kinds of foods here than I do," she said. "Anything you recommend?"

"Hmmmm." This time, that deep, thoughtful rumble was sincere and serious as he considered it. "I'm thinking....probably meats on sticks or a ramen joint, but since we did just do Ultimate Cup Noodle^TM, maybe barbecue is the way to go. Or just a good solid burger joint....we could just sort of set off and see if we find somewhere that looks good. A little bit of urban exploration."

Nell smiled up at him. "Walk around and then follow our noses to whatever smells best."

"Then it's almost definitely going to be some kind of grilled meat, probably on a stick," Gladio admitted, with a laugh.

Hey, with Amaya gone now, he could finally reclaim his rightful title of loving meats-on-sticks-the-most. He had way more canon support for it than she ever had!

"After working up more of an appetite with more skating, anyway."

"Then that will be fine," Nell said easily. She was fine with that or could easily find something else on the menu if she wanted.

"Yes," she agreed, smiling up at him. "But we can hold hands this time since we won't be in class anymore."

"I mean," Gladio chuckled a little, grinning as he held out that hand for her now, "you're pretty much an expert now, you can just pull me along, right?"

Nell started laughing so hard she almost fell over. "You...? Oh you! You're funny."

She had to stop and hold onto him with both hands for a second to steady herself. "Maybe if I done attached myself to a railing and tugged us along hand over hand."

Well, it would be good exercise at least.
