A message had been sent out to the class to let them know that they'll probably want to dress nice and warm for today's class, which might already start getting some gears going in their heads about what they were doing, but even Gladio was bundled up when he had the class meet him at the portalocity office, so you know he was being serious about it!

He wasn't going to say where they were going quite yet, though, chuckling faintly as he lead them through the portal, and then gestured at the majestic snowy mountains around them as he announced, "Welcome to Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, guys, one of the biggest ski resorts on this continent, and particularly noteworthy for sports because it was here that the Winter Olympics of 2010 took place! But, since I'm pretty sure none of you are actually secretly Olympic level skiiers, we're heading on over the some bunny hills, where someone who's much better versed in this kind of thing than I am is going to give us a rundown on the basics of skiing and snowboarding so we can give it a try for ourselves! I'm personally a bigger fan of the latter one, but you'll want to give both a try and see what's better for yourself. And, hopefully, we'll still have some time at the end of it to enjoy some nice hot drinks at the lodge over there before heading back to the island."

He looked toward the lodge and the person approaching them with a grin and a lift of his chin. "Good. Here comes the instructor now. So pay attention; the sooner we get through the basics, the sooner we can get to the sports!"

Because that was the whole point, right?

The instructor is here to show you all the ins and outs of skiing and snowboard if you don't already know how, and if you do? Well, it's a great time to brush up on those basics again, or just enjoy the majestic winter snowscapes!

And now it's your turn! Give skiing, snowboarding, or both a try, or see if you can get away with thinking Gladio won't notice you slipping away to the lodge to avoid all of it early!

Eleanor had been excited to learn something new and she absolutely loved the mountain views,despite the cold.

But she was really surprised how something that looked so easy could be actually incredibly challenging. She was determined, though, to make it down at least one of the slopes without falling before calling it quits for the lodge.

For most of the time Nell spent more time lying in the snow than up on her feet. After a while she started to get the hang of it - though she preferred the skiing portion more - and was having a great time.

Jon was going to stick to skiing, seeing as the poles seemed safer than trying to stay up on his own.

To his surprise, though, between his lack of grip from his burned hand and his general lack of coordination, the snowboarding ended up easier.

Well, “easier”. He was still sopping by the time he gave up and headed for the lodge.

Who may or may not be contemplating dragging the guys out on a winter ski resort weekend one of these days...

"Can we just stay here," Nell said, all breathless and red cheeked and cheerful. "This is fun and some of the resorts probably have hot tubs or at least those big soaker tubs in the rooms!"

"I could definitely see what they might have available," Gladio said, chuckling fondly as a comment mysteriously disappeared from the Devil's Nest somehow. "I should've figured you'd take to this place like a little snowbunny."

"Hop, hop," Nell said a little giddily. The snow and the cold and the exercise and just the beauty of the place had her just beaming with joy. "If we could, that would be fabulous. And if not, we can always make plans to come back another time!"

"Well, we're already here," Gladio pointed out, "might as well make the most of it, right?"

And with Iggy's little impromtou jaunt off to Argentina this week, he felt he could his own excursion, too. Plus, he was pretty sure disrupting this level of adorable excitement in Nell would be downright criminal.

"But if we're staying," he warned her, "we're definitely getting back out there on the slopes again, too."

"Oh yes!" Nell breathed. "A little time to warm up, a bite to eat and out we come."

She smiled at him. "That way we'll really appreciate the hot tub and the soft bed."

And Gladio grinned right back. "Perfect," he said. "Granted, I'm gonna appreciate that hot tub and soft bed regardless, but, yeah, it's always even better when you really earn it, right?"

Nell nodded. "Whether it's a hard day's work or play, or makes the rest afterward even better."
