So You're New to the Multiverse....; Friday, First Period [01/10].

Summer had the class meet in the danger shop for their first class, although if anyone immediately associated that with something thrilling and exciting, boy, were they about to be disappointed! Because they were walking into a room that looked almost exactly like any other classroom in the school, because Summer still thought that would never stop being hilarious. There was, however, one small different they may have noticed, should they glance out the windows, where the landscape of the island looked positively prehistoric, and the occasional dinosaur that would stomp or fly by would only enhance that impression.

But that wasn't important right now. What was important was the teacher at the front of the classroom, leaning on the desk and waiting for everyone get settled and looking almost a little excited because her roster offered a lot of variety that was going to make this class very interesting.

"Hi, guys," she greeted, when it was time to get started. "Welcome to the class. I'm Summer, I'm going to be your teacher, and this is So You're New to the Multiverse, an exploration of what it's like to start grasping the concept of a multiverse and living in it, especially in the context of residing in a multidimensional nexus that seems to really expand the possibilities. However, to know where we're going, we first need to take a second and think about where we've been, and I don't just mean that as a way to make the standard introductions class sound more important than it really is. But, like, it is actually important in this class, because we're all coming from pretty different places and levels of experience with this kind of thing. And I actually do want to be helpful and not throw anything at you that's too mid or too mind-blowing, you know?

"So today, that's mostly what we're going to be focusing on. I want to go around and start up a discussion about where you're from, your experiences with the multiverse so far, if any, and what you're hoping to gain from this class. If you're in this class because our administrative moose has a weird sense of humor, well, hopefully you'll end up thanking the moose because you'll have....well, I'm not going to promise a good time, but I will promise an interesting one.

"And while we chat," she continued, moving a little off the desk to gesture toward the snacks that were cluttered on top of it, "I've brought in some snacks. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think many of you are actually from this world, or even a world like this one, so the weird cognitive mind-fuck of brands that are just slightly off from the ones you're used to might not be as effective, but I've scored us a bunch of slightly-off brands from a few different dimensions to enjoy while we talk. Like, how about some Conka-Cola instead of Coke! Or Prongies instead of Pringles. McDougal's burgers instead of McDonald's. That kind of thing. Because sometimes, it really is the little differences that can drive you crazy about another dimension, while if it's a big difference, it's actually easier, because it's not challenging your current perception of what to expect from something like a name brand."

She waved her hand a little, shaking her head.

"But I'm getting ahead of myself. If you want some snacks, help yourself, and once everyone's ready, we'll get into finding out where everyone's at."

Just slightly different than usual.

Help yourself to some slightly different from what you're used to brands! Question whether Summer really did get them from a different universe or just got them from, like, an Aldi or something.

Also, no one tell her that Hydrox is actually not actually just a weird other-dimensional version of Oreo.

She is interested to see if anyone even notices that the coffee she brought is not coffee at all, but caf. It's a whole thing.

"Alright," Summer nodded once everyone seemed settled back in, "so! Introductions! For those of you who don't know me well yet, my name is Summer Smith, and I've been dealing with multidimensional bullshit since I was , and I'm a pretty avid multidimensional traveler myself now. I got a special gun for it and everything. The world I'm coming from is a version of Earth that has been dealing with this sort of thing for about that amount of time, too. We've had several alien and/or multidimensional invasions, and so by now most people aren't even going to be thrown by some it, and when I started coming to Fandom it all felt oddly familiar. Which is my way of saying I'm pretty used to this shit, even before coming here. Does that make me an authority? Mmmm, not really, because there's still a lot I haven't experienced, because that's the whole thing with the multiverse....it's, like, totally infinite? And, like, that's a lot? But also stuff we'll get into more as the class goes on, I don't, like, want to spoil you guys too much on what we're doing ahead of time.

"So, anyway, yeah, your turn. Let me know who you are, where you're from, your experience thus far with multiverses, and anything else you might think is relevant and we'll work from there!"

Should you need her for anything outside the purview of the class, she is so there, enjoying some Gooshers and Prongies.

On the one hand, I feel human and like myself again!
On the other hand, that means I have to go back to work.
Sigh.

Percy de Rolo

Percy looked at the McDougal's and Prongies with a distasteful look on his face. Not because he was familiar with the name brands but because he doubted the contained any kind of nutritional value. Quite frankly he'd rather eat the "rations" that Grog kept in his back of holding.

The "coffee," however, did not seem to be any different than what he was currently trying to get used to in this reality.

Percy stood for his introduction, a habit ingrained in him since childhood. He offered a slight bow before speaking.

"I am Lord Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III of the Royal House of Whitestone, located on the continent of Tal'Dorei in a world known as Exandria. My only experience with the multiverse might be my recent journey to the Feywild, though I believe that realm is more a separate dimension adjacent to my reality rather than an alternate version of Exandria. I chose to take this class of my own accord. It was not influenced by any four-legged member of the Cervidae family. Having recently found myself stranded in this reality, I hope to learn more about the multiverse, particularly since Ms. Smith has already been quite helpful during my time here on the island."

He gave another slight bow before resuming his seat.

"Awww."

Whether it had been intentional or not, there was clearly one thing, at least, that Percy seemed to have down paf, and that was the idea that a little extra flattery thrown Summer's way was rarely a bad idea, and she placed a hand to her chest with a pleased beam at that last part.

"Thanks, Percy! I hope I can continue to be helpful throughout the class, too! And, like, neighbor realms and pocket dimensions within other dimensions are really interesting, too, but not quite as wide-spread as alternate dimensions. Tell me a little bit more about this Feywild. What were some of the biggest differences you noticed between it and your Exandria?"

Charlie Gale

"I'm Charlie Gale and I'm from Canada from a time that's close enough to this one to not make much difference. I have a little experience with the multiverse from being here and some of my classes, but I'm always up for learning more!"

She did not stand or bow. Sorry, Lord Percival lots of other names she couldn't remember.

"Hey, Charlie," Summer said with a smile and a nod,"good to have you in class again. Of your multiverse experiences so far, would you have any you'd rank as your favorite or least favorite?"

"Oh, they're all so much fun!" Charlie said cheerfully. "But the screaming one I didn't enjoy so much."

"Well, the terrain certainly had its own opinion on whether or not we should pass through unharmed," Percy began. "The plants and fauna seemed to have a mind of their own. Everything blended and melded together, making it difficult to navigate. It was, as I believe the vernacular of this world would put it, a bad acid trip."

And then there was Garmelie. Don't even get Percy started on Garmelie.

Summer snorted at that.

"I mean," she said, wryly, but also in a tone far more fond than her reference points deserved, "we've all been there, haven't we? It sounds really interesting, though! You'll have to let me know if anywhere we go for the class feels similiar."

Or maybe she could see if that was an option in and of itself....

Because that was a great idea, right??

"Oooh, screaming sun planet?" Summer asked, brightening up way too much. "Spoilers! Or did you mean a different screaming one?"

"No, that's the one," Charlie said. "Totally cool, but not somewhere I'd want to stay for long!"

Lydia Bennet

Lydia had gotten somewhat used to the modern custom of not rising for introductions, but she followed Lord Percival's lead and stood and curtsied when it was her turn, since it was, after all, more proper. "I am Miss Lydia Bennet," she said. "I hail from Hertfordshire, England, by way of the island of Sainte Josephine, where it is the year 1811. I have been here in Fandom for about a year now, and have had some exposure to the concept of the 'multiverse' through my classes and such, but I fear there is still much I do not know."

Percy would vehemently disagree with the thought of going there.

So naturally it's a fantastic idea.

"I will be happy to provide you any feedback on any of the realities we visit," Percy replied.

Because he would probably offer his opinion to anyone if they asked for it or not.

Pamela Isley

"I'm Dr. Pamela Isley," Pam said, because she'd gotten in the habit of using her title earlier in the week and she was going to stick with it. (FYI, she wasn't rising for anyone.) "'Where I'm from' could be Gotham City or Seattle, depending on my mood. I'm familiar with the multiverse. I'm just... more used to seeing versions of people and places I know."

A pause.

"As opposed to 'this universe where Gotham doesn't even exist'."

"Miss Lydia," said Summer, who wasn't about to start curtseying or anything, but she did give a sort of proper bob of her head. "And, honestly? Even people who have been dealing with this kind of thing for a while can get tripped up. Shit gets complicated. And when you add time disparities to it, too? Whew!" She snorted. "There's a reason I typically don't mess with time travel stuff, but it can be a pretty interesting thing to see how things might've been if, like, different people won different wars, or, like..."

Give her a second while she tried to think of literally anything she might know about the 1810s....

"IDK, Napoleon was, like, tall or Hitler was actually good art or something."

Summer gave a wry smile at that and lifted a hand with a shrug.

"Hi, yeah, that's me," she said. "I'm actually from Seattle, too"--well, the suburbs--, "and we don't have a Gotham City. Not that I know of. I mean, geography never been my strong suit, but I'm pretty sure don't. I have heard of it, though!

"What are you a doctor of, if you don't mind me asking?"

Although being an astronomically hotter redhead and a PhD was just so not even fair, Pamela!

"Phytochemistry," Pam said, leaning back in her seat. "Plant chemicals."
